Haven't tried it yet and not sure if the Microsoft Hotfix KB931812 needs installing as well !!!
Edit: New link to VAIO Camera Capture Utility 2.2.1.04100 - Use SOACCU-01363004-UN.EXE

Hi Alec006 and welcome to Club Vaio.
You don't say what you have tried but with a clean installation of Vista you must: -
1. Install the camera driver
If you have saved your old C:\Drivers directory, just RUN:-
C:\Drivers\Camera\VGP-VCC?\DPInst32.exe
If not then download your C:\Drivers directory from here (Original Drivers Package): -
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-SZ&m=2660
Extract the files(right-click on the downloaded .ZIP and choose "Extract All")and run DPInst32.exe
2. Install the VAIO Camera Utility
Download the Original Utilities Package from here: -
http://support.vaio.sony.co.uk/downloads/updates/updates.asp?site=voe_en_GB_cons&c=0&s=VGN-SZ&m=2660
Extract the files and run the Setup.exe in the 'Utils Installer VAIO Camera Utility' folder
3. Install the VAIO Camera Capture Utility
Setup.exe in the 'Utils Installer VAIO Camera Capture Utility' folder
The camera does not become visible in 'My Computer' with Vista - you just need to set it up with MSN or Skype and it will start automatically.
Good Luck.

Well, that would explain a lot!!
The Camera Driver seems to be missing from the download.
Do you know which camera you have? I think probably the VGP-VCC6 but I'd only be guessing.
If it is the VGP-VCC6, you may have to download the drivers for the AR41_Series and run
AR4_Drivers\Drivers\Camera\VGP-VCC6\DPInst32.exe
I didn't bother to download your drivers and look at them. It would have taken too long with my slow internet connection! I assumed the camera driver would be there as on every other Vaio model. Apologies.

Hi Blencogo,
I have the same problem with my SZ1/XP-C. I have followed your instructions and downloaded the orginal utilities and drivers, and camera utility but:
- how do I "run DPInst32.exe ?
- Where do I find the VAIO Camera Capture utility?
- and then, how do I Setup.exe in the 'Utils Installer VAIO Camera Capture Utility' folder?
thanks

cheers mate this works and is easy to do . thanx again
I would download the Vaio Camera Capture Utility Update 2.2.01.04100 direct from the Vaio-Link server here: -
SOACCU-01363004-UN.exe
It doesn't matter where you download it to as long as you can find it to run the SOACCU-01363004-UN.EXE file. Something like c:\temp would do.
Just to recap generally on these camera problems!!!
If you have a Vaio newly released with Vista as the installed OS from January 2007 (VGN-FE41 VGN-AR31 VGN-SZ4 etc) then: -
1. Check you have the updated Vaio Camera Capture Utility 2.2.01.04100 installed.
2. Check you have the Microsoft Hotfix KB932812 installed.
3. Try reinstalling your camera driver at C:\Drivers\Camera\VGP-VCC?\ and double-click on DPInst32.EXE
If this does not work or you have a model which is new after Vista was released (VGN-FZ VGN-AR41 VGN-SZ5 etc) and your camera gives the message that it is "in use by another application", try reinstalling the Camera Driver as in 3. above. If no success then this is still an outstanding Vista problem between the camera driver writers and Vista's 'User Account Control'. The only known temporary solution to make your camera work is to disable UAC in Vista.
To disable User Account Control: -
Press the Windows key on the left of your keyboard and press R
Type in the command
MSCONFIG
and press OK -> Continue.
Open the Tab “Tools” and scroll down to ‘Disable UAC’ and click Launch. At the black screen, click OK and restart your Vaio.
I should point out that UAC is a security feature incorporated into Vista and disabling this may make your Vaio less secure. This has to be your choice but it will probably fix the camera!
