Turning off word suggestion or t9 for text messaging

Hi my friend has got an x8 and currently no user manual or internet access, can anyone give me instructions please?

go to the messaging app -> open any converation -> tap on the input rectangle -> once you see the keyboard tap on the wrench icon on the right side -> text input settings -> word suggestion

or on the homescreen press and hold the MENU button then -> once you see the keyboard tap on the wrench icon on the right side -> text input settings -> word suggestion
