Hello all,
I have currently a VGN-FZ11Z which I have owned since Sept 2007. I have not had any major operational issues but for the past few months I have noticed that my laptop will heat up. Heating up in the sense that it is pretty hot to even touch (Area under the vent exit). The activities that the laptop is doing are normal everyday things such as surfing the internet, word, excel etc.
However when I am using a lot of the computer resources such as playing computer games, the heat will be constantly generated (As expected) and the fan will spin at high speeds for roughly 5 mins then slow down again and then starts to spin at high speed again.
Are other Vaio users having the same issues or is this normal?
Many thanks
Rav
Hi Rav,
A machine of a couple of years old may need the cooling vents cleared of dust.
I suggest that you buy a can of Air Duster and blow out the vents. Don’t get the nozzle closer than approx. 100mm and keep the can upright.
If this fails to work then disassembly may be required for a thorough clean.
Hi Rich,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I had a somewhat good idea that this was the case as my other vaio needed the same treatment after a few years. On the old one there was plenty of dust that was expelled.
However I'm a bit sceptical doing it on this one, as when I used compressed air on the old laptop, the fan stopped revolving! I therefore had to start the laptop up and used the compress air while the computer was running as so to start the fan working again.
I’m afraid this might happen with this laptop. Have you heard of this ever happen before?
Thanks
Rav
Hi Rav,
No I have not experienced what you describe and I must have carried out this procedure more than 20 times over the years.
If you are unwilling to use compressed air then the other alternative is disassembly of the notebook in order to clean the vents and this could present further problems unless you are experienced.
Either way there is a strong possibility that a build up of dust is the cause of the problem...
Rich,
Thanks for the reply. Yep think will have to get a can of compressed air and use it. Think its the only safe viable option.
Cheers
Rav
