Sony Vaio VGN FZ21Z Windows 7 Problems

Downloaded Windows 7 yesterday and experiencing following problums which I'm hoping others can help with.

The screen is too bright - I know the power optimizer can reduce this which I've used before. However, with Win 7 the settings seem different to before and not sure how to reduce brightness.

Fn keys don't appear to be working. Presuming I need to update drivers but cannot find support page at Sony for new operating system.

Can anyone offer advice please.

Advice very much appreciated.

The screen is too bright -

Update your video card driver and you should be able to control the brightness in the control panel.

Again this is driver related, there is a post here on how to fix most of this.
I'll have a look and post the link when I find it.

Hello,

I have an fz21z also, and installed windows 7 last night.

There is a post on here but I could'nt find as search is broken have been up all night! :slight_frown:

Anywhay managed to find the no certified by sony vista-64 bit drivers page. The NVIDIA driver fixes most of graphics issues:

The page you want is here: http://www.vaio-link.com/os/vista/64bit/ (click accept and it takes you to the driver page).

Still in the middle of updating if I find out more will post.

Cheers,
Mig

Thanks for your help. Should there be a link for 32 bit? I think there are issues with the graphics card as I cannot get Aero to enable.

Just received reply from Sony regarding Fn key issues - no support whatsoever offered!

Copy (complete with spelling mistakes)!

Please know that at this moment in time, it is only possible for us to provide support for VAIO Windows 7, for models which were applicable for the free Windows 7 upgrade Sony has offered.

Your model of VAIO is not one of these applicable models, therefore it is almost certain that you have installed a retail non-OEM version of the OS.

We understand that you are having driver issues at this moment in time, and we would like to resolve this issue, but for now there is no confirmation on weather or not Sony are going to develop suitable Windows 7 drivers for previous models such as yours.

The best thing we can suggest in this situation is to wait a few weeks and check the VAIO website again to see if a Windows 7 tab has been added. Feel free to email us again should you need any further update on the on going issue.

My laptop is just over 2 years old and Sony couldn't care less!

I updated my FZ21Z last weekend with Windows 7 ultimate. I had the same problem. The Fn buttons, volume button and brightness adjustment buttons did not work. Tried everything. Nothing worked. Tonight I tried it again and I got it working. I re-installed the Sony Shared Library as an Adminstrator. rebooted. Re-installed the VAIO Event Service as an administrator and voila. It worked !!
