Music via USB harddrive for kdl55 hx853 ?
Hi
I'm enjoying this tv (upgrade from Panasonic 37").
Can you play mp3 files from a USB powered 500 gb harddrive ?
I tried, and the drive seemed to power up but wasn't recognised by the tv.
Can anyone advise ?
thanks

I have the same problem. I have just created a Sony support request and will let you know the outcome!
I'm very disappointed that I spend a lot of money on this TV and the PVR feature does not appear to work with USB drives. Also note that the PS3 seems to also have the same issue.
I tried all the things that were recommended on other forums. For example ensuring there is only one partition and formatting to FAT32. The USB hard drive also has its own power supply and so power cannot be the issue.

Apparently USB drives with their own power supplies are not supported.
Sony's response was:
In response to your enquiry, please follow the following:
- Format the HDD to FAT32, one partition.
- Connecting a USB HDD device via a USB hub is not supported. Connect the device directly to the TV.
- The SATA HDD with has its own power supply is not compatible.
- The recommended hard disk is: western digital USB hard disk drive.
- USB HDD capacities from 32 GB at minimum to 2 TB at maximum are supported.

thats not entirely correct, Sony recommend the Western Digital My Book Essentials which not only is it knocking on a bit now but is also a powered drive !

Hi guys!
Does the KDL 32EX310 support all types of USB pendrives? Today I visited a tech store and tried to play some clips via USB on a 32EX310. There were both .mkv and .avi extensions with common codecs, but the TV did not recognised any of the videos.
Is there any opportunity to play these general types (xvid, h264, etc.) on a Bravia?
