Xperia Arc Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot Problems

Does anyone have problems getting the portable Wi-Fi Hot Spot to work?

I have just updated my phone to v2.3.3 firmware and still not working.

Build number : 3.0.1.A.0.145

Model : LT15a

I created the Wi-Fi hotspot and successfully connected my notebook to the hot spot but not able to access the internet from the notebook browser.

Checked all the browsers settings, eg. proxy settings to no proxy, firewall settings on my notebook, etc, etc

Just called the Sony Ericsson support number and the support person on the phone.

He informed me that he has tested the portable Wi-Fi hot spot for the Xperia PLAY but not yet for the Xperia Arc

He will do a test on his side and give me a call back.

.

Not sure when though. If he does call back, I will provide an update about this.

Thank you

Telstra NextG in Australia.

I have contacted the Sony Ericsson support line again today and this time the person I spoke to sent me a template to fill up detailing the issue faced and phone model details.

He will forward this to their technical support centre.

Would be interesting to see what their response is.

is this what you have?

Name: Telstra Next-G Internet
APN: telstra.datapack
(I've been told telstra.pcpack and telstra.internet also work, but supposedly pcpack has 15minute timeout (and timecharged)).
No settings until you get to MCC
MCC: 505
MNC: 01
APN Type: default

or

  • Name: Telstra Internet
  • APN: Telstra.wap

    Thank you for the suggestions.

I have 3 APNs for Internet, MMS and WAP services.

The last two are not relevant.

So for the Internet APN the following are the settings:

    Name : Telstra

    APN : Telstra.Internet

    Proxy : Not set

    Port : Not Set

    Username : Not Set

    Password : Not Set

    Server : Not Set

    MMSC : Not Set

    MMS Proxy : Not Set

    MMS Port : Not Set

    MCC : 505

    MNC : 01

Authentication : CHAP ( Does not matter if it is PAP. Tried changing this too )

    APN type: default,supl

Thank you but I do not have a problem with coverage.

Signal strength is excellent (Full bars).

Furthermore Telstra's Next G coverage is exceptional as it covers 99.9% of general populated areas, have not experienced any drop outs and provides enough capacity for fast downloads and uploads.

In fact it is the best and fastest mobile network in Australia.

Hi thier, to confirm we have also forwarded your enquiry to our Australian technical support team so they can complete additional testing of the Wifi hotspot feature using the Telstra APN settings will update you once we receive a response, While we await thier response have you attempted to connect any other devices to the wifi hotspot such as another laptop, phone, etc? this may help in identifying the source of the problem

Also thanks for your support Uliwooley great information Slightly_smiling_Face

    Hi Craig,

Thank you for the comfirmation. Looking forward to the answer from the technical support team.

I have also tried with other wi-fi capable devices eg. other notebooks and a Xperia X10a to rule out a single point of failure.

The APN settings for the phone were auto configured over the air by Telstra.

This can be done from the following link.

    http://configure.telstra.com.au/telstra/index.jsp

Hence it will be much easier for the technical support team to configure the phones and minimise and human error in entering the details.

Thanks for link, as a left field solution have you tried deleting the WAP APN account and attempted using the WIFI hotspot feature again.. based on the symptoms and some past experience typically when a connection is present yet thiers no data connectivity its because a WAP account is being used.. worth a try until we get official feedback Winking_Face

    Thank you.

Tried your suggestion. Still does not work.:smileysad:.

Hopefully do not have to wait long for the official feedback.

I can confirm that the Access Point Name you are using is incorrect, Please try the below APN

    Name: telstra internet

    APN: telstra.iph

    Proxy : Not set

    Port : Not Set

    Username : Not Set

    Password : Not Set

    Server : Not Set

    MMSC : Not Set

    MMS Proxy : Not Set

    MMS Port : Not Set

    MCC : 505

    MNC : 01

    APN Type: default

    This should resolve it.
