Xperia Arc Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot Problems

Does anyone have problems getting the portable Wi-Fi Hot Spot to work?

I have just updated my phone to v2.3.3 firmware and still not working.

Build number : 3.0.1.A.0.145

Model : LT15a

I created the Wi-Fi hotspot and successfully connected my notebook to the hot spot but not able to access the internet from the notebook browser.

Checked all the browsers settings, eg. proxy settings to no proxy, firewall settings on my notebook, etc, etc

Just called the Sony Ericsson support number and the support person on the phone.

He informed me that he has tested the portable Wi-Fi hot spot for the Xperia PLAY but not yet for the Xperia Arc

He will do a test on his side and give me a call back.

.

Not sure when though. If he does call back, I will provide an update about this.

Thank you

That guide was made before multitouch was out for X10 so by using Flashtool you were able to flash it

hi mate.

I followed all steps you pointed out. It still didn't work.

Every time, when it asked me to plug the usb in(to connect the ARC). It reported: found , but show a red words: you need to reisntall the driver for the device ....

it seems to me, the enclosed drivers in the flashtool didn't by default work with ARC? you said yes , but how come mine didn't? very strange.

I even isntall the latest Sony PC Companion and Update services.

One strange thing is :

PC Companion can detect the plug in evfery time I connected the ARC to the PC (when not tried flashtool)

Update Service never sucessfully detected the plug in. I unpluged and release back key.(I hold it for 5 minutes!) , then If I go back to the update service again (it still was asking for plug in). A few seconds later, the PC is dead.

This happends to my old phone X10 as well. So I never sucessfully used the sony's Update Service. I used a different PC  (same). Even I repeat with taking the sim card off and battery off for a mintue and retried. Same) I am fraustrated.

Will Windows 7 be OK? I am using XP SP2.

hi, I followed this thread with interest as I would experiencing the same turn on hotspot/ 3g data dropout issues, and have the same Rogers-build Arc on the Telstra NextG network. After preparing and steeling myself to do a firmware flash, I found that there is a far easier way to get this working.

Basically you need to add something like "dun" to the APN Type of your active APN. eg APN Type = "default, dun" and the personal hotspot should start working without dropping the 3g data connection.

Much less painful than putting in new firmware if you just want to get the hotspot working

hi, sorry double post in this thread and not really answering your question directly but I thought you should read this because it was a bit hidden in the thread above - basically another way to get the Personal hotspot working without the firmware flashing hassles....

Hi Phil,

It is frustrating isn't it.

If you still want to persevere with flashing the firmware of your phone then there could be some driver corruption in the PC you are using..

I know it is very unlikely but that's the only thing I can think off right now.

When I flashed my phone, I did it on a XP SP3 notebook.

A friend of mine also flashed his phone after I told him how to do it. He did it on a Win Vista notebook.

Have not tried using a Win 7 notebook so I can't confirm if it works with Win 7.

In theory it should work.

Have you tried using another PC?

Another thing is that you need not hold the back key for 5 minutes.

You should only need to hold it briefly. Once the flashing process starts you can release the key.

I have exactly the same problem like apc_user described.

I have windows 7, tested the phone, installed all updates (Anroid 2.3.3) and my arc can turn into wifi hotspot, but no internet access...3G going down.

I cant understand what else to do.

My model is LT15i.

thx

Hi sotnik,

The native USB tethering and portable wi-fi hotspot was not working on my phone because I had a Rogers, Canada version of the firmware which will only work if you are using a Rogers SIM card.

I had to flash(reinstall the firmware from scratch) the firmware on my phone to a generic version to fix my problem.

Updating the firmware on your phone using the default methods of software updates is not the same as a flashing the firmware.

So to fix your problem you most likely will need to flash your current phone firmware to a generic firmware version.

The steps to flash the phone firmware have been listed in the previous post I made and also that of uliwooly.

Hope this helps you.:smileyhappy:

I personally decided not to mess with flashing anything on my unlocked Arc that has Rogers firmware in it.

I decided to use Easytether instead.  It works great!

You can download it from the market or from this link:

I hope this helps.

Cheers!!!

Hi,

just to make it clear, you can get the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot working on the Arc LT15a with Rogers firmware, without

- having to reflash firmware and without

- having to install another app such as EasyTether

All you need to do is go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names

Select your active APN

Scroll down to "APN Type" and click on it

Add ",dun" to the APN Type of  your active APN. eg APN Type = "default, supl, dun"

After editing this, you should be able to turn on the Portable Hotspot without the 3G mobile data connection dropping out.

This worked for me in Australia on Next G with the telstra.iph APN
