W995 Problem With Conversation Function

Hey guys,

Recently, I've been having some problems with the conversation function on my Sony Ericsson W995. I can use and access it perfectly normal ('home' > Menu > Messaging > Conversations), however when I try to click on a conversation I have with someone, I get sent back to my home page. I don't know how this problem arised, but what would you suggest I do to fix this function? If it involves redownloading some software or the application, could I get a link to such? Thank you! All help is greatly appreciated.

http://www.fjsoft.at/en/downloads.php 1) First of all, use My Phone Explorer to back up your sms (from phone memory only), and anything else you want, before updating or resetting the phone, which can be restored back to the phone later. This application can also read your contacts from the SIM card, should you need to back them up, but don't backup your sms onto the memory card, as these will be lost if you update or reset the phone. You can also backup your contacts onto the memory card using the phone only: Main menu--Contacts--highlight New contact--Options--Advanced--Back up to m.card

2) To master reset the phone: Main menu--Settings--General--Master reset: Try the soft reset first(Reset settings) and if this doesn't solve the problem, try a hard reset (Reset all).

3) To take the battery out, you need to prise it gently but firmly, from the bottom. To update/re-install the software, switch the phone off, open up the SE update service application and when prompted, simultaneously press the C button and connect the USB cable until the update service recognises your phone which should only take a few seconds. You can also update the phone over the air without a PC: Main menu--Settings-General--Update service--Search for update: If you are told that you already have the latest software, then you will need to use the PC method to re-install the software.

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/mobilephones/downloads/w995?cc=gb&lc=en Download the update service from this link to your PC and follow the instructions to update/re-install the software in your phone. The phone will need to be switched off for this process and don't forget to back up your phone on PC/PC companion/memory card beforehand. If running the update fails to fix the problem, then try a master reset.Hope this helps.

Hey Dr_Chris,

Thanks for your reply and I tried this out last night. Don't mind calling me dumb or anything, but so the first step in updating is backing up all my stuff, but I got an error for some reason. The most important things on my phone were just my music and contacts and I had my contacts saved to my SIM and my music was saved to my memory card, so I just skipped that. Then the next step was to turn off the phone, take the battery out and reinsert it. For some odd reason (I don't want to break the phone either), I just couldn't take the battery out. I literally sat on my chair trying to wedge the thing out. Tips please on how to take out the battery on a Sony Ericsson W995 xD? Anyways, so I skipped that step hoping it wouldn't have too much of a detrmental effect. The step after was to hold the c button as I was plugging in the USB cable into my phone. So I did exactly that, however the next step was to just continue holding it. How long am I supposed to hold it for because I held it for a good 10 minutes and nothing happened on my phone or the computer? I didn't exactly want to hold it for anymore than that 😕

Aside from this, if I have to master reset it, is there any way I could back up my messages onto a memory card or onto my computer? And lastly, where could I find this master reset option? Thank you! All help is greatly appreciated.

Hey Dr_Chris,

I come back with great results. I updated the phone and it worked and my conversation function now works again. MyPhoneExplorer is also a fantastic application and I highly reccommend it. It worked like a charm for backing up my stuff. I did not have to master reset (thankfully) and I appreciate all the help you've given. Although I still don't know how to wedge that stupid battery out, but I managed to solve my problem without breaking or have anything malfunction so I'm happy. Again, thanks for all your help!
