Xperia arc won't send messages.

Xperia arc won't send messages.

I got the phone a few days ago, unlocked and I am with telstra, at first it worked fine but on my 2nd day of using it it started failing to send messages, if i turned the phone off and on again it would work fine for about 5 minutes then stop sending again, the whole time iv been having no problems at all recieving messages, just sending them. After looking around i found a few things saying change the network mode to GSM only and reset the APN's which both seemed to work for a few hours before dropping out again. Any ideas? Hoping its something as simple as a setting or something i may need to update.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

The first thing I would advise doing is double checking with your current network provider to ensure there is no problem on their end regarding this function. If they are sure there is no issue on their end then I would advise running a software update to resolve this.

As far as I am aware currently the Arc is not available through Telstra.

Only Vodafone and Optus have the exclusive rights from SE to officially sell the Arc.

The versions sold by VF and Optus do not have the necesary hardware for the 3G/HSPA 850MHz band needed for Telstra's NextG network.

So if you purchased an unlocked NextG compatible version, it is most likely an overseas model and very likely a Rogers, Canada branded.

Just a point to note, if indeed you have a Rogers branded Arc, you will not be able to use the native usb tethering and personal wi -fi hotspot just out of the box.

Apparently, unless you have a Rogers SIM card, it won't work.

Sorry for the slow reply, did the update and like all the other things i tried, it worked perfectly for a day or so and now has stopped again but won't send anything even if i turn the phone off and on again. My sim is an older telstra 2g one if thats worth anything, tried it in another phone to be sure and worked fine and telstra can't tell me anything about it.

In this case you may wish to have a chat with your network provider regarding a possible SIM replacement.

Sorry to hear that.

Telstra probably could not tell you anything because as I said in my above post,  officially they do not carry this model. Hence do not want to provide support for it.

As Sam mentioned, you can try to get a new NextG SIM card. The NextG SIM is compatible on Telstra's 2/2.5/3G networks and also global roaming compatible.

There is no charge for it if you go any authorised Telstra Shop/T-Life Shops.

If you put in a request to Telstra to send you a new NextG SIM card there will be a charge for postage and handling. Not sure how much it is.

Alright got it all sorted, thank you both a lot. On a side note it i seem to be leaching credit when im not on a network so im assuming there is a background app or something running trying to access the internet. Is there a list somewhere of apps im safe to stop (i haven't put any on myself so its all the default stuff and default setting as when i got it) or could it be something completely different im missing?
