the difference between x10i and x10a

Or rather the difference between at&t branded compared global version. ATT is my provider. The x10a is branded and it used HSPA or sometimes 3G. The x10i shows E which is like slow by comparison. All the settings are the same in access point name. When ATT asks for the IMEI they just say sorry that is not our phone. I wonder if there is a way to fix the x10i to use 3G?

yes that is correct, you can flash the i version to a hardware and vice versa, it won't change anything, since the hardware remains the same.

the difference is the antenna, but you can't change it with software, it's a hardware issue. So there is no way you can use an X10i on ATT other than 2G/Edge, you can flash X10a firmware into the X10i, it will work just fine but still the hardware remeains as an X10i

I must remark about flashing firmware. I did flash the x10a and now it shows in “about phone“ that it is now an x10i. And it is still H for signal. So the antenna you say makes sense because flashing firmware did not slow it down by changing a 2 i

So flashing firmware to change the a“ into an “i doesn't make a difference So it's all about the antenna?!?! Hmmm maybe just go to ebay again and bid on another x10a is my solution. My second phone was half price maybe i can get a third for even cheaper.

yes, and you can do the same on all the SE phones (androids), there's only one exception, Play since there are 3 versions i, a and cdma, I haven't tried and I haven't seen anyone who has tried to flash either i or a software to the CDMA version
