No sms tone or vibrate?

I dont seem to be notified whenever i recieve an sms. The phone is only a day old. I get a tone and vibration when recieving a call but not when i get an sms. This is really bugging me and would be very greatful for a sloution.

open your messaging app -> press MENU -> settings -> Notification vibration
