I tested this here and it will only match what you're typing against saved numbers and not names. I will forward this internally to see if this is how it's supposed to work.

Well, actually you *Can* enter name in dialer.

At first I also thought that it is not possible to enter name in the dialer but latter I found out that the dialer is pretty smart!

Here's how:

Suppose your friends name (as saved in your contacts) is Jack.
In the dialer type J A C K with the numeric keypad; like we did in old day feature phones (but press only once for each letter).
I mean press 5 2 2 5
the name JACK will show up.

For another example to find the name NORMAN you should press 6-6-7-6-2-6

Try it!
In fact the dialer will predict the name before you complete typing. 🙂

@Adjoint
You are right. This is the only solution i have found. Thanks a lot.

IT WORKS FOR SURE!!!!!

You being new in these forums could give us a perfect solution.

The only problem is that as you type the letters they are not shown on screen but you get the name highlighted above.

Hint: The number of letters present in the name should equal the number of times you click on the buttons. So you know very well how to use it as mentioned by the above guy.

That's a bad coding and design from Sony. What if you are doing other phone calls requiring transaction code which is a combination of letters and digits? This didn't worked as I've tried it.

The numeric keypad should be designed in a way when we press any key, a pop-up option would come out for us to select which letters to key in. For example, when we do a long press on key number 2, a pop-up option would come out prompting us to press A, B, or C.

Correction to my previous post. It's actually a bad coding and design of Android system and it's not Sony's fault at all. Sorry for my mistake.
