Stills from Video on Cybershot HX20V or others

Hi can you extract stills at high res from a video after it has been taken from the cybershot HX20V or similar? also does the photoburst take continuous stills until the card is full?

Hi adameakin, welcome to the Sony Forums

The HX20V will shoot a maximum of 10 frames, either at 'hi' (10 frames @ 10fps) or 'lo' (10 frames @ 2fps) setting in Burst Mode.

HD video frames are roughly 2MP (1920x1080 pixels) – quite a bit lower than the maximum-size still image of around 4900x3600, and there's no way of 'making up' those missing pixels without degrading image quality.

The restriction you allude to is buffer size – temporary memory space used by the camera as it writes to the card – so while HD movie-size frames will theoretically record until the card fills up, 18MP frames fill the buffer way too quickly for sustained recording.

However it is possible to shoot hi-res stills while you're recording a movie, using the pretty cool Dual Rec facility

Cheers
