Locating an HX5 via the GPS????

Hi there - I had, until last Friday a Cybershot HX5, and believe that it was pinched from me at the local supermaket.

It has GPS facility - is there anyway I can track down where it is?  It annoying to know that the camera knows where it is but I don't!  Sorry if this is a stupid question...

Completely impossible I'm afraid. It's unlikely the thief would upload your existing photo's with some of his own so it's gone I'm afraid. If you are in the UK then get a HX7 or HX9 before the current cashback finishes.

Hello krichbird - welcome to the Sony Forums.

Unfortunately Sam_e_p is correct - the camera itself doesn't have the functionality of an iPad or iPhone device where it tracks itself in the event of it being lost or stolen.

When you do pick up a new camera, I would advise getting a UV marker pen and putting some details onto the device that only show up under UV light. In the event of another theft, it would slightly improve your chances of your camera being returned if the thief was caught. Other than that, there are some good anti-theft camera straps now on the market to prevent theft during use. More info is available here:

I know it won't really help what has already happened but anything that can be done when you get your next camera will help.

Thanks

Simon
