Tripple Camera Xperia 1

I noticed the poor quality of the picture in 2x zoom mode, so I tested the Camera and found out the 2x zoom is only digital. 1x and 2x mode are shot with the same lens. My phone is only using the first and the third lens. The middle one isn't used at all. I could easily test this by holding my finger on the lenses. Can anyone else confirm this?

Don't have your problem here. 2x is black when second lens is covered.

Does your phone also run on build 55.0.A.2.278?

My phone comes with provider branding, so I might not have the latest firmware build running on it.

Looks like I need to contact my provider or directly Sony support then...

The camera has alot of issues with auto focus after latest update, it is having a hard time locking focus in all distances + when pressing the shutter button to focus there can be seen a strange flash in the display from the camera, it doesn´t happen all the time and it´s only for a split second when it occurs. All of this is happening after the latest software .278. 

This is my second Xperia 1, the first one had all the same issues after i updated to the 278 update aswell and i thought is was an phone with a broken camera and that´s why i got switched out. 

I hope Sony Mobile fixes this issues with the camera of the X-1.

I can't confirm that focus and flash issues on my phone.

Looks like there might be some bugs in the camera firmware.

Hopefully Sony will fix them soon.

Does anyone know whether Sony support reads what we write here or should we report those issues directly to the support team?

I think about calling the Sony hotline and my service provider on monday to report about my "dual cam"

I called Sony support team today and asked whether this is a known issue and ensure it's not a hardware problem.

In the cinema pro app you can switch between cameras and mine worked too in that app.

By switching to portrait mode in the camera app I can activate the 2x lens too.

Seems like they discuss in the linked talk - 2x mode won't always enable the 2x lens. Hopefully Sony will fix this with an firmware update, so you can choose which lens you like to use.

This review is about the video capabilites but he encounters the same auto focus issues i have been facing with the Xperia 1 and this guy is a professional. I know there is issues with the camera of the X-1. Today i did a few tests between the nativa camera app and Open Camera from playstore and the Open Camera app performed better in terms of photography i all aspects (Auto Focus, image quality and more) then the native camera app! This is quite interesting if you ask me, shouldn´t the camera perform better in the native camera app instead of an 3rd party app? Imo, yes. 

Sony has alot of work to do interms of camera performance both for video and still photography and in the overall performance of the camera app itself.
