In this case I would advise running a software repair:
1. Download the PC Companion software from http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
and install it on your PC.
2. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
3. Phone Software Update.
4. Start.
5. Repair Phone
6. Continue
7. Accept data removal
8. Next
9. Wait for prepare
10. Select Phone
11. Follow the connection steps
Make sure to backup the handset before performing this task. Backup & restore
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

me again,
tried the above with update and everything and it still doesn't work. Wondering what else to do being that i don't want to get a refeb phone and have only had this since january. hmm.
Hello,
I have the same problem and from 2-3 weeks it bugs me a lot. I bought the phone month and a half ago and with the old Android my battery lasted for 5 days and my front camera worked, while with the unfortunate change to the new android my battery is drained very fast, causing me to have both stamina and the battery saving option already when the phone is at 60%, have almost constantly fly mode and my phone still only lasts for 3 days. Also the front camera is not working and I tried the method, suggested by you, but it did not help me.
Is there a driver we could download which could return the front camera, because I cannot find it also under dignostics, and it doesn't work all together when you press on check front camera, while I have pictures proving that it worked before?
Thank you!
Try the repair with sony update service:
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/
If not working, you need to visit a sony service:

I have the same problem with xperia Z1.
Before this problem, I had problem in sliding the phone surface to open the phone. The service centre asked me to send for repair. I was told it takes five working days to repair. When checking the service status I was told to wait for another week. After a week, I checked again and was told it was not ready because Sony was waiting for parts to arrive. I had to raise my vocie and wanted a one-to-one exchange (not exchage a refurbished phone).
I did not notice the front facing cmaera problem before because I don't use them until yesterday. I had written to Sony on previous problem and I am still asking for a one-to-one exchange.
they are not actually waterproof. They have no guarantee that water will not damage the phone. It's mostly a gimmick.
Other than that, pools have additives in them. You should not be using it in pools.
You should avoid getting your phone wet, no matter what sony claims. The flaps are very flimsy and are not at all trustworthy to seal properly. Finally, if even after using it normally the flaps wear out, the phone is no longer waterproof... Sony claims that wear from normal use is not covered by warranty. Therefore, if the flaps fail for whatever reason, warranty won't cover it... keep in mind that you, as a user, have no way of knowing if the flaps seal properly or if they are worn out. They might look fine, but that doesn't mean much.
