I have had the phone for just under two weeks and all seemed to be running fine until I plugged the device into the PC today, I changed the connection mode from charging to MTP but nothing happened, I followed the instructions in this thread but still no success. I've attached a screenshot showing the discrepancy in the setting and notification bar.
The notification bar shows charging only whilst in the settings it shows MTP, though the PC does not detect it. I have also followed all instructions mentioned here. Please fix this bug, it is quite annoying.

Problem solved, it is caused by the new driver update (Microsoft – WPD – 2/22/2016 12:00:00 AM – 5.2.5326.4762), it seems to have issue with some devices-specifically Mediatek powered ones. The solution is simple, uninstall the driver update via Windows, if that isn't possible then use system restore, if even that fails (like in my case) then the driver can be manually removed using command prompt, as explained here. Now the device connects fine, just like it used to.
As far as I am aware the update has now been pulled so shouldn't install. I triggered the installation of the update myself after manually checking for updates-that's the last time I'll be doing that.
Hi @Johnny_Curry,
Is it possible for you to connect your phone to another PC and see if the same thing happens? I want to see if the problem is with the phone or the computer.
Hi
I plugged the phone into another PC (this and my PC both are running Windows 10) and the phone was able to connect MTP for file transfer. So the issue resides in my PC? What should I do?
It could be any number of things. Try different USB cables and a different USB port in your computer, also try restarting your computer while the phone is connected.
Tried another cable and port, didn't work. I restarted the PC whilst connected to the phone and I got the dialogue to charge, connect mtp... I chose the mtp option and now the status bar shows mtp but the device is still not detected!
How can I uninstall the driver?
That's a bit out of my support boundaries I am afraid, you'd be best talking to a compter expert, but you can download the driver here: https://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-xa-driver/
I've uploaded the image above, tried to update the driver in device manager (using Windows update and the downloaded driver zip) both failed. I also uninstalled the driver and plugged the phone in-also to no avail. I have no idea on what to do, I am sure this is a problem on Sony's side, someone else also reported a similar issue.
It's not something that I am personally able to assist with as it's not really my area of expertise, I don't want to make anything worse.
I recommend you contact a PC expert. I am sorry for the inconvenience.
I think I have found the cause, https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware/after-installing-a-driver-upda...
Now I need to figure out a way to remove the faulty driver!
I hope this works for you @Johnny_Curry,
Please let me know how you get on, it might help someone else with the same problem.
