VGX-XL201 => Restart freeze on the VAIO logo after upgrade Vista or 7

Hello guys,

Do you have the same problem than me? After I upgrade my VGX-XL201 with Windows Vista (or 7 RC) I can't not restart my computer. When It restart, the VGX freeze on the Vaio logo and I need to turn off by pushing the power button. After that I turn on again and It start without problem. Do you have the same issue with your VGX after upgrade?

In the beginning I thougt that I have a hardware problem but It's not. One year ago, when I purchased my VGX on eBay, I receive it without the original CD. I make a clean install with Vista Ultimate (official) and I install all the drivers from the Sony's website. All works fine except that I didn't have all the programs include with an orginal install. It's normal and I don't need it. The only thing that doesn't work was the restart of the Windows. It's freezing on the Vaio logo. Ok. 5 month's ago, I install Windows 7 beta and then the Release Candidate and I have the same problem with the restart. Ok. I thought always that was due to a hardware problem.

1 moonth ago, I purchase the original CD by Sony support service because I want to try to use all connectics to make some record from external AV and with my installation off Vista I can't use this connectics. I make an "original install" and I was very surprise when I see the restart working very fine! I realize that my restart problem was not a hardware problem but a software problem!

Do you have the same restart problem with your Windows's upgrade?

Thanks a lot for you replys!

Yes I have the same issue. A bit annoying, I think it is a driver missing somewhere, but not sure which one. Of all the things that could be messed up it is about the least important. It shuts down fine if I go to shut down, Sleep is fine just the Restart. If you work it out please let me know.

Hello,

I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who have this "small" problem.
If I find something to repair it I will tell you.

I have this problem too, but like Glad555 says, it's not crucial.

I also cannot record direct to DVR-MS file type, and the eject button no longer works on the front of the unit, but i can software eject from inside Media Player for example.

I have a solution which solves this problem IF you don't need firewire!

Go into your BIOS and disable firewire (1394), I don't know why it works, it just does.

I had same problem for a long time but found the solution on this thread:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=836519&page=53
It's for the XL301 series but works on my XL201

There are a few other fixes there too.
I occasionally use firewire so I have to re-enable each time.

Anyone here had a problem with their remote control not working on alternate restarts? or solved the eject button not working problem?

Many thanks for the tip. I had the exact same issue and this has sorted it. Luckily I don't use the firewire because I very much doubt Sony will provide a fixed BIOS.

Read this post & it fixed the VAIO logo hang?

Strange, now i have a new problem with the GFX card driver for windows 7.

I cant seem to change my resolution size & the driver has a error next to it in my device manager :slight_frown:

Just upgraded from Vista and the TV Pack to W7 and very pleased with it.
Seemed to play all the video stuff I had except mkv files, so installed Haali Media Splitter and that was fixed. Also, my version of TMT (for playing Blu-ray) did not work on W7 so contacted Arcsoft who gave me a fix and now that works.
Only issues I have left are:
Eject button doesn't work: Is there a hardware fix so actually pressing the button works?I've read a lot of posts and the only one I found said that they just set up a shortcut on the desktop to trigger the eject. Now I wouldn't mind that but they didn't say how! Can the shortcut be put in the 7MC menu? Any ideas?
ITV HD (in the UK): I had this working under TVP2008, but now it doesn't. Any solutions?
Youtube in 7MC: I had Yougle working under Vista, but now it doesn't under 7MC. Any fixes to this? Any good alternatives?

Thanks.

i did a vaio system recovery b4 i did a fresh install think that i could upgrade from XP MCE to Windows 7 which was pointless as u cant.

the install went all ok ok from the VAIO logo boot freeze whic hwas fixed by reading this post.

My 201 doesnt have a Blu-ray player some im guessing the eject not working is a problem with that BR drive/driver (mine works fine)

Im trying to get round my first problem of not been able to install the gfx driver correctly so my resolution is too small for my TV and when i do change it to only other option is doesnt display right.

So im on the case trying to fix that first b4 i start goin into TV tuner & sat tuner.
