Yesterday VAIO UPDATE 5 informed me that new updates were available. When I looked at them some had dates that went back to 2007 which I found a bit odd as I bought my VAIO laptop (VGN-FW21M) in January 2009. From the dropdown in help I clicked on 'Support Informaation By Product' and this took me to a support page for a model VGC-LT1S. Under downloads for this model were the updates that VAIO UPDATE gave me. Looking at the correct support page for my model these updates are not there.
Basically, VAIO UPDATE is downloading incorrect updates for my model. This showed up on Saturday (January 16th) and were not there the day before.
Any thoughts?
I dont get any new updates for my model FW41m. But I think there is some problems with the update 5. Hopefully a fix will be made soon.
Thanks for you reply. I trying to get Sony to look at the problem but it is like trying to wade through treacle! Will update here if i ever get a response.
Hi bobtrowell,
Have you checked if the updates are newer than what's currently installed on your Vaio.?
The reason I ask is that I had a couple of updates, dated 2007, appear in Vaio Update 5 as well. One of the updates was for the AverMedia M115S TV Tuner Driver Version 1.0.3 which was indeed newer than the version 1.0.1.31 driver that was currently installed on my VAIO..
Things changed this morning when i stated my laptop. I did a 'Check for Update' in VaiO Update 5 and the update that had been there from saturday morning had been replaced with updates that were indeed applicable to my model (VGN-FW21M). When I click on 'Product Information by Product it now takes me to the correct page for VCG-FW21M and not the support page for VGC-LT1S which it had done since Saturday.
As I have made no changes to my laptop (hardware or software) during this period I can only assume that this abmormally was caused by something happening at the VAIO Support end on Friday evening and corrected/fixed on Monday evening. Will the VAIO Support Team admit to this?
I haven't heard from the Support Team since my online chat with them yesterday.
Hi bobtrowell,
glad to read everything is working correctly now with your Vaio update 5..
Will the VAIO Support Team admit to this?

The same here updated to newest versions but now showing old updates from 27/11/2009
I had something similar. After VAIO UPDATE 5 appeared to be 'working' I applied an update for WINDVD BD only for the 'Check for Updates' to come back with an older update from last year to become available. I didn't do anything with this older update and then suddenly after a day it disappeared from the Update list! What is going on at the Support team end?
I finally received the eagerly awaited email from the Support Team. It wasn't exactly an email but an attachment which opened up a word document which was a copy of a fax document. Basically it said open up the internet options under tools and delete the temporary internet stuff. No much good as I had already tried this knowing that this is usually is their usual reply for most problems. However, I find this funny in a way as if you look at the description for VAIO UPDATE 5 on their site it says under 'What Does it Fix' and I quote ' VAIO Update becomes a stand-alone application which does not require Internet Explorer.'
Oh well, maybe the left hand will tell the right hand what is going on in Support Team one day.
