hi
after upgrade to win 7 from vista, i realized i only have a c drive of 450gb.
i want to split it up a bit like add a new partition D and E.
in the disk management i have:
- simple basic healthy (recovery partition): 12 gb
- (C) simple basic ntfs healthy(system,boot...,primary partition) 452 gb
my question is it safe to create :
- Partition D with 100gb
- Partition E with 150gb ?
the idea is to separate the windows partition from the others i will be using later for editing and stuff, i plan also using external hdd but i don't know how will that work , editing on external hdd , or is possible to add another drive to the vaio? i am using vgn-fw series.
thanks in advance, any advise very appreciated.
PS: sorry for the newbies questions
Hi natchildcare and welcome.
Don't apologise for your questions - there is no such thing as a silly question.
It is quite safe to divide your drive. Go to Disc Management in the Computer Management Console, right click on the large C drive and shrink it to the size you require. You can then create new drive(s) from the unallocated space. It is usual to create just one extra drive for all data - too many partitions can be restrictive later.
Leave the C drive large enough for all your future programs and store all data on the new drive(s).
You will find external USB drives useful if you need extra space. It is possible to fit two drives in your Vaio's chassis but the fittings are not there and you would have to buy further fittings.
Good Luch with your projects.
