FR415B hard drive upgrade

Hi all, I am going to upgrade the hard drive on my Vaio FR415B notebook and was wandering if anybody could offer advice on this. I would be interested to know how big a hard drive users have upgraded to and what problems were encountered. I had a look in the back of my notebook and it seems the 40 Gb hard drive is has an IDE interface. I am hoping to upgrade to something over 100gb at least. I am also running on the Windows XP edition that came standard with the notebook.

supported 160GB hard disc

larger than 160GB - I don't know

I have upgraded the hard disk on a similar aged Vaio from 40GB to 120GB and no problems, but I understand that the BIOS should handle up to 160GB.

Hi all, sorry, the notebook is a FR415B, by way of whats said it looks like I could try a 160GB HDD. I was also going to upgrade the memory,it looks like there is a 1GB module- PC2100, SDRAM DDR266, 200 pin, on the market, has anybody tried this one, or two to give the notebook 2GB mem.

Hi Ian,

According to the specifications for your model each memory slot can hold DDR PC2700, which is backwardly compatible with PC2100, with a maximum of 512MB per slot (not to exceed manufacturer supported memory).

Some members have reported that they have successfully installed more than the recommended RAM in various notebooks but others have reported problems such as the machine failing to boot or the full memory not being recognised.
