W995: cannot charge through USB!

A few weeks ago, my W995 charger died on me. So I decided to use the USB port to charge my phone.

It was working quite well for a while, then it stopped charging when I plugged in my phone today.

The phone has the 'connected to USB' icon on, but the computer does not recognise the phone. I could not find it in 'My computer'

I have never updated my phone before and I do not know what to do now because I have no other ways of charging the phone.

Please help! Thank you!

Yes try it again and failing that, try one of the other options I mentioned before. You can also try a phone repair via PC Companion, which also requires the phone to be switched off.

Let me know what works.

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/mobilephones/downloads/w995?cc=gb&lc=en Before attempting to update/re-install the software, I suggest you try a different USB port and/or different USB cable. Also, the fast port USB connection on the phone tends to become unstable, as I have found on my W995, so try disconnecting/reconnecting it and see if that helps.Otherwise, run the SE update service from the above link and remember to backup your phone data on PC/PC Companion/memory card beforehand.

Hi, thanks for answering.

I have tried reconnecting the USB cable and even restarted my computer, but the problem is still there.

I would like to update the software too, but my computer cannot find the phone, so technically I think it is still not connected? But the phone has the USB icon on.

Can I still update the software?

I'm not sure because you need to switch the phone off (to enable flash mode) for the update service to recognise and update the phone.Download the update service, run it and follow the on-screen instructions. If the update service doesn't recognise your phone, then I suggest you switch the phone on and perform a master reset: Main menu--Settings--General--Master reset, and then try the USB connection again. If this doesn't help either, then I suggest, as I mentioned earlier, to to try a different USB port/cable.Alternatively, if you don't have the latest software, you can use the phone's over-the-air service to update it, but you can't re-install the software this way: Main menu--Settings--General--Update service--Search for update.

Let me know what happens.

I decided to update the software, but what happened was(when I was holding the c button, the phone switched on, and my computer attempted to install the hardware but unsuccessful. Then it switched off. And back on again. This time, it began to charge. Since, the update did not seem to happen, I let go of my thumb on the c button and let it charge:/

I should try to do the update again later?
