video format for play

Hi everyone

Could anyone help me with how to get my videos to run full screen on my xperia play?

Ok so here's whats happening. I have a folder with videos that are already converted for my Ipod touch which is mp4 H.264 which I believe is the same format that my play uses. The videos play fine when downloaded straight from this folder but have horizontal black bars down each side and I would like to view them on full screen. My converter gives me the choice of 3 sizes which are 320x240, 480x320 and 640x480. but each one gives me the black bars.

I assume this is because these formats are not widescreen or 868x480 which the play is.

So can someone advise me of a good converter whih will convert to 868x480 which I believe is 480p HD so the full screen is shown on my phone or tell me which settings I should convert to to produce these results.

Basicly all im asking is what format to re-encode my vids at to fill the screen fully on xperia play

Hi and thank you for your reply. I will download the converter you advised and give it a try and post back the results when i get them. It does look from your link that this may well be the answer to my problem

In the meantime, I downloaded a player from the android market called Mobo player which is a free version. in default it plays the same size as the built in player on my play, but it also has a touch button very similar to the one on the Ipods which change the picture to various sizes which includes one that shows the picture on the full screen of the play. The advantage of this is that all the movies I have converted for my Ipod touch will also play on full screen on the play so I dont have to have two seperate folders on my pc with the same movies in different formats.

Thank you again for your input and if anyone else experiences the same problem there is two alternative solutions to solve it
