Hi, I will be looking to get a Neo when my contract ends but I have a problem. I have used 12 Alpha/numeric keys to text with for the past 20yrs. I don't want to use a qwerty keyboard when I am holding my phone in portrait mode. I know HTC and Samsung have an option to switch to this type of keyboard but SE don't. Can I get an app to give me the alpha/numeric keyboard I want? TIA.

you can use many types of keyboards, you just have to download it
and then go to settings -> language and keyboards- > and install it
once you go to your messaging app long press on the white rectangle where you enter the txt and tap on "input method" -> choose the keyboard that you want to use, in this case T9 keyboard
Hi,
I have looked through the Market™ in search of an app with an alphanumeric keyboard but have not found one, maybe someone will see this thread and will be able to provide you with further assistance.
Hi Annie, thanks for the quick reply. I don't think that my question was very clear. I have not owned an android phone before so not sure how apps work. My question should have been "If I could find an app for an alpha/numeric keypad and downloaded it, would I be able to set this app to be my default input method when texting or would I only be able to use the qwerty keypad that SE provides" This is important to me as I know it can be done with other manufacturers phones but I would like to stick with SE.

Thanks uliwooly. I'm sure I could get used to a qwerty keyboard if I had to but to me having a T9 style keyboard makes more sense as each key is bigger. To me that would make it easier to text one handed.......

Quick up-date. Noticed on the SE Arc that next to the space bar is a small book. Press this and it opens an options page. If you select settings, you can change yor txt input method from qwerty to 12 key input. You can even choose different input methods for landscape and portrait mode. Hope this is available on the Neo too. Think software version was 2.3.2
I have the arc and I don't see the book
