I recentley bought myself the Arc and while mostly happy with it, I'm having some issues: It seems that people I call sometimes have trouble hearing me, it is described to me as different kins of noise. Any suggestions on what this could be? Call quality on my end is usually very good when this happens. I don't think it is a problem with the recepient.
What also complicates the issue somewhat is that I have suspected it to connected to handover between 3G and GSM which happens in areas with poor reception. This thats time and is a problem when making or having calls. Still the problem seems to sometime occur when I turn of data traffic and wlan etc.
Any suggestions? I have looked for an update. (though there are none yet?)

First I would like to thank Zann and uliwooly.
I think you should try with another SIM just to be sure, and if it does not make any difference you should talk to your retailer.
There is no new update available at the moment, but it will come.
Unfortunately I have no date for it yet.
it might be an issue with your network, do you have all bars when you hear noise/static? or are you close to speakers/tvs/etc?
Sometimes I have been in a room with lots of electronics, other times outside, and even in my car. It *might* be related to that but it happens too irregulary. I have all bars/most bars usually, but sometimes it has been really low, and typically in 3G mode switching over to 2G. Not the most helpfull info, I know but it is hard to tell as I have been described different sounds and have problems in similar yet different situations. ( I just had problem with wlan of, 2G, and beeing in a place with little possile interference.) I have ordered a new simcard as it was suggested to me by sony ericsson. (mine is probably 8 years old or so!)
What really makes me blame the phone is that I never had such issues with my old phone, though it did not have wlan and 3G was turned off 90% of the time (though, from the time I did use 3G before realizing i could save a lot of power turning it of, I can not recall such problems)
Thanks for the suggestion though! I appricitae any further comments you and others might have.
tefront, while hearing noises when near electronic devices is common, hearing it too often when you're outside or even in the car makes no sense. you should send the phone back for a replacement.
Thanks, I might send it back if a new simcard doesn't help, its a tough situation. I almost never hear any noise at my end, it is allways on the other end. It also happens very irregularly, soemtimes I've had calls that have lasted for 30-40 minutes with 3G turned on and no issues, other times I've had calls with hardly any issues for 20 minutes, then lots in the last 5, and others where it has happened several times during a call with regular intervalls. Again, I'm relying on reports from the caller in other end.
Also, repeating my own question earlier, as far as i know I've not updated my phone, has there really not been any updates?
seems that an update will be release soon

"...also in a coming software update to the Xperia™ arc and Xperia™ PLAY that in most markets will start to roll-out already now during Q2."
I bought my Xperia Arc about a month ago. The phone is absolutely fantastic for everything EXCEPT a phone. I have nearly stamped on it so many times. I have NEVER come across a phone that has such apalling call quality regardless of signal strength or location. This applies to both parties in the conversation - I can't hear the other party properly and they can't hear me clearly. I am utterly disappointed with phone side of the Arc and fed up with everyone I call asking me to find a landline and call them back.
The phone has been like this from day one and has never been dropped. Should I take it back and ask it to be changed for a new one or is there a trick I am missing? I read in the forums about getting a new sim card - mine is probably 6 or 7 years old but worked perfectly in my previous phone.
I would be most grateful for help - it's so sad to have the most beautiful phone on the planet and not be able to make calls satisfactorily.
Many thanks!
p.s. A friend has just bought an Arc (upgraded from X10 when he saw mine!), he lives in the same village and is also on Vodafone but doesn't have the same problem
