Can't exit applications using hardware keys

Hi,  Please help.  Can't seem to use the hardware keys when navigating through the applications and settings.  I can't exit any application, must turn off and restart phone.  Is there anything I can do?  Please help!!!

That's might odd!  Ok couple of things... do you have a case on the phone as sometimes these interfere with the side buttons which in turn disables the hardware keys on front.

If you don't then I think you will have to re-flash the firmware using either PC Companion Support section or Sony Ericsson Update Service.  This will wipe your phone back to factory settings so make sure you have backed up your contacts to your SD card or sync them with Google or SE sync.  Apps will also be removed but you can use Appbrain online and download the app on to your phone and then sync them.  It will then keep a list of all your downloaded apps to reinstall afterwards.  You will have to set up your email again too.  BUT, this should hopefully resolve the issue if it is a software glitch that is causing it.

If a reset doesn't sort it, then maybe it will need looking at by a technician so would suggest you contact your carrier / retailer as a starting point.

Let me know how you get on.

The Home key normally exits you to the home screen and the Back Key normally takes you back, sometimes through a few levels out to the home screen.  Are they not responding at all when you have an application open?

Hi,  No, not responding at all.  Am unable to use the hardware keys to exit sleep mode either, need to use power button.

Wow, you're a legend.  It was the clear case surrounding the phone.  Took it off and now it's working.  Thank you so much.

Have a great night!!!!!

Yay! Glad you got sorted - doing a reset is a pita unless you absolutely have to. Enjoy your buttons!

It was also mentioned that a bit of DIY with a sharp knife on the case might do the job, just to ease it off the side and bottom buttons. But mind your fingers Winking_Face
