When i first got my new phone it was fine and charged no problem. Last week i used the update system and
updated my phone for the first time. Since then i am having problems getting it to charge and holding the charge. When plugged into
the elextric socket the normal icon is missing. I have tried switching off and on again but no joy. Try plugging it in with the usb to
my computer and still no charging icon. Tried switching off and it shows the large charging icon in middle of screen. Switch it on and
still no sign that it is acrually charging then a few mins later it bleeps and giives me the choice to download updates etc then about
ten mins later it bleeps again and gives me the choices to download, update and charge. This all seems to have happened after the update and am not sure what is causing it. I am at a loss how to solve this one. The barrery suddenly loses the charge and it takes ages to get it to start
charging whichever method i use. Any ideas what the problem might be ? Any help would be gratefully recieved.

You don't really need to buy another charger, just a micro USB cable, they are really really cheap.
I would suggest that you try a different USB cable and backup everything and repair your phone using Update Service (repeat the update process).
Thank you for your reply however this charging usb cable is the only one i have for the phone and came with the phone. How do i use 'another' usb cable.
I should also add to the problem stated that i only updated the phone to be able to use the internet on it. Before doing so i had no problems with charging, could send and reciieve any amount of text msgs and phone calls, leave the phone on 24/7 and still only charged every other day. Now applications start running by themselves, the phone drains after approx half a dozen text msgs and one phone call. Am not happy about this at all and if i have to go and buy another charger then i am going to be even more annoyed. Can my phone be reset to the origonal setting so i can go back to the way it was?
having 3G/H enabled does drained your battery. there are few things you could do to improve battery life
long press anywere on the homescreen -> widgets -> power control
make sure wifi, bluetooth, gps, sync are off
if you don't need to have 3G the whole time then turn it off, the simple way to do it is by downloading Quick Settings app
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.bwx.bequick&feature=search_result
just tap on the 3G icon at the bottom and it will dissable it
you can reset your phone by either
settings -> privacy -> factory reset
or
by using the Update Service and really repair anything that might be wrong with the software
before you repair or reset your phone, make sure you backup everything
if you don't have the backup & restore app
http://www.filefactory.com/file/cbbd3d3/n/Backup_and_restore_v010935.zip
but don't backup the SETTINGS
just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already
f you don't want to use the backup & restore app then
backup SMS it will backup SMS and MMS to your Gmail
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.zegoggles.smssync&feature=search_result
or your SMS use
backup & restore SMS
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result
or
Save MMS for your mms files
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.schwimmer.android.mmsextract&feature=search_result
one last thing
Don't worry so much about backing up your apps
on your computer go to
market.android.com -> log in -> click on My Library -> and send all your apps to your phone
Thank you for all the advice will try it all and if i have any more problems i know i can come back here with them. I really appreciate all the answers you have given me.
Many thanks
