Solved! Go to Solution.
I have three Sony Ericsson's - an X10 (my first android) an X8 and now an Xperia Neo. The X8 is quite a nice phone within the price point, I have it running using a different launcher that I downloaded from the market so that I can have up to 7 screens and a different app drawer. The biggest issue that people are moaning about now is that the phone won't recieve any further updates as far as the Android operating system goes. I believe that its direct competitors which are probably Samsung and HTC have phones that offer 2.2/2.3 Android. It's a mine field trying to find the right phone for yourself especially when you may be tying yourself in to a lengthy contract.
I was torn between the X10 and the HTC Desire when I was renewing my two year contract last June and it came down to looks in the end, I just preferred the look of the X10. If you can, get yourself in to a mobile shop and actually play with working models, not the dummy ones on the wall, to see how they feel in your hand and how the screen/buttons react.
The X8 is a capable phone for texting/calls/viewing videos/social networking/browsing. I am not a gamer but I would think that the size of the screen and the size of the memory is a hinderance for games and you may be better off with a different device.
The applications to download depends on what you want to do with the phone and also I am assuming that you have the Android Market on your device? If so then you can download free apps, try them and then uninstall them if you don't like them. Any downloaded apps will appear in your app drawer which is accessed by dragging up on the ^ at the bottom of your home screen and then scrolling right to left. If the app you download is purely a widget then it won't appear in your app drawer but can be accessed by using the Add Widget function on to one of your home screens.
Hi Suze,
Thanks for your reply, but still my problem is not solved as you mentioned correctly that you can drag ^ on home screen and see the application which i downloaded from market (free applications) like games etc, i cant see application drawer in my entire menu, i see icon name by application installer but when i open that its empty, so i am still wondering where all downloaded application are? i mean from where i can find them i have only OI file manager which is installed on my phone nothing else, can you please help me
Thanks in advance
I am trying to understand your issue, can you clarify when you drag up (ie open your app drawer) there is nothing in there or have you been looking for an app called App Drawer?
What apps have you downloaded that dont appear.... I will try and reproduce the issue with my phone.
Yes you are right i don't see any applications which i downloaded in applicaton drawer that is ^ i have downloaded couple of games like angry birds some widgets, some softwares somehow i can see only 3 things advanced task manager to kill the running task volume and cricket buzz, other then this all the other useful applications i cant see, is it like when you download the application from the market it directly transfeered to SD card? i don't know whats happning and all the application i checked and its compatible with my X8
You have me a bit stumped!!! So I am trying to remember all the pieces of the puzzle from the different threads I have seen your problem in. Have you tried reinstalling the software using either PC Companion or Sony Ericsson Update Service?
I am assuming you haven't tried installing any custom roms etc on your phone?
What is the memory status on your phone.... SEttings>Sd card & phone storage?
My SD card Space is 1.50 GB and phone memory is 75 MB, also tell me is there any ways where i can transfermy application to my SD card and also tell me how to create ROM and whats the use of that? as i am new to android so asking so many questions
Please hlep me
As you have an X8 you won't be able to transfer apps to your SD card as this is not available on android 2.1 and the X8 is not scheduled for any further official updates. You could have a look over at XDA developers site and find yourself some info on flashing/rooting your phone but this is not something I can advise on. It could potentially invalidate your warranty so it is a decision only you can make when you have got all the relevant information.
You didn't answer the question about running a repair on your phone so I am going to suggest that you do this using SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service) which is downloadable from this link, altho it says X10 you actually choose your phone model in the first stage of running the programmed after install.
This will wipe your phone so make sure you have everything backed up, sync your contacts with google or copy to your SD card. Apps will have to be reinstalled afterwards but this isn't going to be a massive issue as this is what you are having problems with anyway.
Hi Suze thanks a lot for your help and support, i am planning to exchange this phone with SAMSUNG Galaxy fit. if you know can you please tell me is SAMSUNG FIT is better option then this?
No problem on the support, that's what I am here for just sorry that you didn't get sorted out. The only Android phones I have had are Sony Ericsson so I don't know anything about Samsung smart phones. That said I have heard both good and bad things about Samsungs so maybe have a look at somewhere like Android Forums or XDA developers and read some of the issues that owners are having. These smart phones are quite a complicated bit of kit and each make/model has its own quirks.
I hope you find a phone that suits you and that it hasn't put you off smart phones, because once you get it working the way you want it they are great. Good luck!
