I had the same issue. My phone with 4.1.2 Android (which was working fine)repeatedly went into safe mode a few weeks back and the service center guys told me that they would first update the software. They updated to 4.3 and still the issue persisted. Then they checked again and said due to motherboard problem it is going into safe mode. Motherboard replacement would cost Rs.5000. Usually when ever there is a hardware issue, it goes into safe mode as per them.

I did not go ahead with the motherbrd replacement but rather took the phone back and purchased a much better phone(non-Sony). After they had updated the software to 4.3 version, i noticed that my volume down stopped working completely and the power button intermittently stops responding. There seems to be these bugs in some version of 4.3, unless Sony can explain, which they will never do.

So dont update ur software to 4.3. Stick to 4.1.2 as this is the most stable and less battery hogging version.

Have this problem on an Xperia C1905.

Believe this may be the button switch flex cable connection (in my case)

The phone is mostly in safe mode after boot and often all of a sudden the volume is turned right down to vibrate.
You can get the volume back up again, then minutes/hours later it's back in vibrate mode.
This also restricts system reboots an software upgrades for install processes and etc.
Think this is more than likely a hardware fault and needs the flex switch strip replaced/fixed.

Anyone done this????

I'm out of warranty

Update

History favours the brave, so I took the phone apart and re-seated the button switch flex cable.
Now been using the phone for a couple of days without problems.

Probably about 20 re-boots and no safe mode boots. All good.

I do have a button switch flex cable on order just to be safe.

I was 'sure' it was the down volume button and not a system failure which forced the safe mode all the time.

Bit of a give-away when the volume is turned up and the moment you release the volume up button the sound is turned back onto vibrate.

Not all forced safe mode boots will be 'stuck' volume down key, but in my case it was as simple as that.

One should always check if <power+volume up> buttons at boot can force phone out of Safe Mode before embarking on more drastic solutions.

Hi, I bought Sony Xperia M a year ago and for some odd reason I can't seem to disable safe mode. I tried turning it off and on again it doesn't work, when I press power and the volume up button simultaneously it doesn't switch on and the volume down button is not working. I also tried pc companion repair option, software update option, it is still in safe mode. So is it a hardware problem or?

Hi @hlabams

Have you try to press and hold power and volume up at the same time but for 5 seconds until the phone vibrate ?

Also you can check:

I'm at disposal for any question.
