Hi everyone,
Just an update on the current EPG issue that seems to be affecting a significant amount of Sony & Pioneer DVD recorders.
Models potentially affected are:
RDR-HXD770/870/970/1070/790/890/995/1095
It appears that something has changed in the way that these devices are receiving EPG data. So we are already trying to understand what has happened and how this can be rectified, realising that a large number of people have been affected.

Sony has been working with the broadcasters to try to work out why this issue has occurred and how to remedy it. With your help Sony has discovered that clearing down potentially corrupt broadcast data (EPG) stored within the machine will remedy this issue.
Whilst we continue to work with the broadcasters, and ahead of any final statement, we recommend the following steps to remedy this issue:
1/.
i). Turn off the DVD/HDD recorder at the mains (ie remove the plug from the wall)
ii). Wait 30 seconds
iii). Reconnect the power.
The set may now work correctly.
However, in certain cases it may be necessary to carry out a full factory reset as follows (please note this will return the product to its original out-of-box 'Easy Set Up' position so you will need to set-up the product as if it were new):
2/.
i). Make sure the DVD/HDD recorder is turned 'on'
ii). Remove any DVD disc from the machine and close the drawer.
iii). Press and hold the "Stop" button, then press and release the "on/standby" button, then release the "Stop" button (ON THE RECORDER, not the remote)
iv). The product is then turned 'off' and all settings are reset to factory default, with all potentially corrupt 'tuning' and 'EPG' data removed.
v). The DVD/HDD recorder will now need to be re-tuned and set up following the step-by-step on screen instructions - Note: Choose "Digital Guide" rather than "Guide Plus" at the relevant stage of the set-up (Guide Plus is no longer broadcast).
In the unlikely event that you still experience difficulties, please contact the Sony consumer helpline on 0844 8466 555 or for more info visit: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/topics/RDR_HN

Solved! Go to Solution.
I am now OK. I did the "press <stop> and <power off> simultaneously" and the device came back carrying out a Day 1 setup. I don't know if that used whatever software came with the device. No programs lost. The box retuned OK and the genres with name changes reverted to the originals but no effect on programs.
Just wondering though as to the point of registering a product. If a particular model is affected then why don't Sony email eveyone who has registered to say there is a technical problem? I have been monitoring this thread since Saturday.
I did spend a couple of hours on Saturday looking on-line at replacements although I can't find anything as good as the one I have HXD995.
Sony were NOT rtesponsible for the fault. READ THE Forum before posting such incorect opinion.
Firstly I would strongly suggest you get your spellchecker sorted out! Secondly I didn't buy an EPG , I bought a DVD Recorder clearly labelled "Sony". Therefore, whoever it is that Sony use to provide the EPG fitted to their machines should be fired. But I can't fire them, Sony can and should. But of course they won't. Sony probably part own the company. As a customer who has no choice over which company Sony use to provide the EPG, have no choice but to take up the matter with Sony - who of course, are busily trying to point the blame somewhere else. It's what Sony always do! How about that for incorect(sic) opinion?
So Sony are responsible for any breaks in transmission? The cheap DVD-r not recording correctly? Your daughter getting pregnant after watching a sex education film? The cat being sick on the carpet after watching a disgusting program?
SONY are reliant on the EPG being right as much as you are (Oh dear, my spellchecker does not like EPG, or spellchecker either. The world must be ending)
Lets all sue the Radio Times for getting program information wrong.
Grow up. Its a recorder, not a life support machine
I've still got a problem with my HXD 995 DVD recorder. I've turned it off and on at the mains and used the on/off switch on the front of the recorder, gone to Easy Setup and put France in as my country (after trying UK) but still get a message saying No Channels Found and No Signal. Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.
sounds like your aeria is unplugged , or not going into the digital sockets in the middle of the machine at the rear (not the end 2 which are analogue)
so check your aerial connections and especially check you are using the digital rf in and out
then easy setup and choose uk as your option now that the epg transmission has been repaired by whoever is responsible for it (not sony)
I have an RDR-HXD995 and I still have not got EPG data. The machine seems to stir itself from standby and sits happily in EPG mode, but never seems to successfully load EPG data.
I have managed to get all my digital channels back reverting to UK after using France at the weekend.
Would like to get EPG back so I can record properly - bitterly disappointed at missing the Tour De France at the weekend. Help please.
Thanks for that really helpful advice - I now have EPG back and working. I had just found that information earlier - some really useful bits of information get lost.
Thanks again and thank goodness for this forum and the generosity of spirit of the people who are willing to share their solutions and work-arounds.
It could be down to the problemattic firmware flash, the HDMI cable/connection, or something else.
I'd start by swapping the HDMI cable used to connect the box, or at least re-seat it. If that doesn't help I'd then ty a power cycle from cold, then re-flash the firmware to see if the fixes things. You could also check your TV's settings/firmware in case something has changed there.
