Hi all,
Firstly, apologies if this isn't in the right place - if someone could let me know where this should be posted I'll try and get it moved across etc.
I've got an issue with Sony Music Centre. Whenever I play any of my songs, it says "Song cannot be played. Error code: -3073". This seemingly happens on every single song in my library (granted, I haven't checked them all.)
I had this error before, around 4 months ago maybe. I never posted a question about it, but just deleted all the music off music centre and did a fresh install. After that it worked okay, until now.
I've tried researching the error code, but found nothing useful unfortunately... If anyone can shed any light that'd be grand.
I don't know what information you're going to need, other than I'm running on Windows 10. If you let me know what other information is needed, I'll get it across.
Thanks in advance!
Aidan
Have you tried using another media player like VLC for example? If so, does it also happen with that?
Thanks for the quick response! I hadn't and upon trying I have found out that all of my music files have been deleted from the music centre folder... Is this a known issue at all? Thankfully, I've got everything backed up on my MP3 player, so I can transfer it back to my laptop... I assume that should fix the problem. Unless anyone knows of a quicker fix for this? Very odd...
I can't say for sure, but I assume this is what happened previously too a few months ago. To have it happen once I'd put it down to a weird coincidence. But twice? I previously used iTunes but jumped ship when my iPod broke last year; I never had anything like that happen (using same laptop etc etc).
Cheers Joe for helping me find the problem! Hopefully it brings us a step closer to finding out the cause...
Edit: Upon further investigation, every folder for artists/albums is shown as empty. However, when I check the properties, they all say they have 5 items in there (can't see anything even with 'show hidden items' checked). What's more, the main music folder says there's 84GB of stuff inside, which on the surface appears to just be empty folders...
Edit 2: For anyone in the future that has this problem, I've figured out what happened (though haven't figured out why). I checked the file location on one of the songs in Music Centre, and for some reason it had been relocated from where it should have been to a different location (in C - users - name - music). I copied the music folder from here back to where it should have been and now it seems to be working. Again, not sure how it moved as no one else has access to my laptop and I surely didn't do it... but at least if it happens again I have a way forward!
Maybe there was some kind of path conflict but I've not personally faced this issue before.
Glad it was sorted for you and thanks a lot for the detailed information and both edits!
