Awaking a Handycam

First time posting so please forgive if this has already been discussed ... and resolved

We used a Handycam CCD TRV65E to get loads of recordings of the kids but life got in teh way of whetting them from tape to storage. I now have that opportunity and got everything hooked up to review the tapes through the TV as we used to but, even though it was being powered through the mains - nothing. At all.

I suspect it is because the battery is beyond hope and totally flat.

My question is - I can get a replacement battery but before I lash out money on that, is it that which is stopping the thing working  - or, not?
