Hey, my problem is like this:
I got assigned a task to import almost 100k (yes, almost 100 thousand) contacts to the Xperia E4g phone (with android 4.4.4).
The contacts were saved in a *.csv file which i fragmented into a smaller "packs" (100, 500, 1k, 5k, 10k and so on).
To import them from the csv file I downloaded the "Import contacts CSV, TXT, XLS" app from the online store. The contacts were all imported to the internal phone memory.
After importing each of the first smaller packages I always checked if they imported properly, and they did (I stopped checking after importing about 10-15 thousand contacts).
The problem is that after I imported all of the almost 100k contacts and checked the contact list I got an empty screen (0 contacts).
When checking the contact screen or even doing any other stuff that involves the contact list the phone often "thinks" very hard, sometimes even freezes so he must have the contacts actually in his phone memory. Earlier displaying 10-15k contacts took him about 5-10 seconds and he has almost 100k.
I tried synching with newly created google account and the contacts synchronization took a longer moment but it finally completed only to show me that 0 contacts have been synchronised.
Any ideas? Can I even import this many contacts to this phone model? or to android?
Solved! Go to Solution.
The most important thing for that 100k contacts is that they should be visible in apps like Snapchat and Whatsapp on the phone, and since those apps import data from the contacts...
What if you upload the csv file directly to your Gmail/contacts on a computer ?
I am gonna try that monday morning after the weekend break
But I know that a friend from work already tried that in the beginning and run into some issues with it. Nevertheless I'm gonna create another google account and try again, but do you have any other suggestions why the contacts are not visible? (assuming ofcourse that they are physically imported into the phone memory)?
Do you think its most likely related to the android system or the specific phone model?
I think is the amount of contacts, perhaps an android issue, but try directly to your Gmail on a computer, and report back.
also on your phone
phonebook/contacts > menu > filter > google contacts must be selected.
Google Contacts has a limit of 25k, which I already synched, but it won't allow me to add any more and deleting them from google will also delete them from my phone.
On the Xperia phone I tried to export some google contacts to the internal phone memory, so that I could then remove them from Google Contacts and add another 25k and synch again - but the phone simply exports the contacts to the vcf file in the phone memory for backup purposes, which is useless for me since those exported contacts still will not be visible to me as local contacts, and will be deleted if I try to synch them.
Any more ideas?
