Hey all,
So recently i brought a Cybershot DSC-W560 from an ebay seller, as i was told that (for my price range) it was one of the best for recording HD Gameplay footage.
So here's my set up, i have both a 22" and 42" HDTV (tried on both) that's connected to my PS3 console, then i have a tripod set up infront of the TV screen to capture all gameplay footage to then upload to YouTube. Everything work's great, except one thing, everytime im recording gameplay footage (which is of Dishonored) i have alot of blurriness, thats really noticeable, i know this is due to the focusing (or auto focusing) but i can't seem to configure the camera setting's to stop AF (Autofocus).
The reason i'm trying to record this way is because i already have a ROXIO GAMECAP for my laptop, but due to the spec's of my laptop and a lack of fund's to buy a new laptop, i can't record that way.
I'v done some research (which is a little late, i know) into other Cybershot camera's, Particularly the DSC-W290 camera, which had some kind of infinity focus icon (like an 8 on it's side) but i can't seem to find it on the W560 for the life of me. But there are a few people on YouTube that record there gameplay through's with Cybershot's, Nikon's, etc. So i know it can be done.
I'm just wondering if there is a infinity focus mode for recording on the DSC-W560, and if not then at least a way i can record my playthrough's without the blurriness, such as turning auto focus off or something.
Thank you all in advance.
Hello thedragon2k11 - Welcome to the Sony Forums
Just a quick question first of all as I have not used this particular model of camera before. When you go into movie mode and press the 'MENU' button, are you presented with a 'FOCUS' option and if so, are you able to select 'CENTER AF'? If you are able to do this, the camera will automatically look to focus upon the centre of the screen and you will be able to position your tripod accordingly to get the best results.
Let me know if this is available to you.
Thanks,
Simon

Hello again
Thanks for the information. When you go to shoot a video with this camera, how far away from the screen are you putting the tripod? As I believe the focus is pretty much automatic when you have the camera in movie mode, does changing the distance from the screen have an impact on the video quality?
Thanks,
Simon
Hey
No problem.
Yeah so i'v actually got a TV in my bedroom, which i can only record up close, since my bed take's up most the space lol (small room's) and i have quite alot of space in my Living room, which i have tried all angle's, i'v tried up close, far away, etc. i'v even tried recording my pc screen, i'v played around with both tv setting's, ps3 setting's, camera setting's.
It still seem's that when i'm playing a game, or changing screen's from say the PSstore to my trophy screen, it tries to re-focus at every given oppertunity if you know what i mean lol.
I'v read that some camera's like the W290 are suppose to have an infinity focus icon that can be selected, which stop's all blur. All information i have collected across the internet seem to suggest that because you are walking around in a game, the camera actually thinks that something is coming towards it and re-focus'es accordingly. but that doesn't explain why it would happen in simple PS3 XMB seen as though there just menu's and dont come toward's the camera, so to speak.
It's confusing me because a guy i'v watched on YouTube has a DSC-W290 and i have a DSC-W560 which i'm guessing is a more up-to-date model, but he can record his footage blur free due to infinity focus. But there isn't any option for it on my camera in the movie mode setting's.
Thank's again for you're reply.
Try to use the Scene Mode Landscape for this. As far as I know in this mode focus is set to infinity by default.
I don't have this option for Movie Recording. Only for taking picture's.
Hi cmosse
The dragon2k11's camera ie DSC-W560 cannot record video in Scene Mode, After you've selected the image size, the only options in Movie Mode are Auto or Underwater. The problem is after setting focus to the TV screen, the camera re-focuses whenever the scene on screen changes. And since you cannot Hold Focus or Focus Manually with this camera it going to difficult to stop the camera re-focusing.
To the dragon2k11 I am not ignoring you, I've just addressed cmosse comment because I can't think of a solution to your problem
