If I fully charge the battery, then take 10 shots, the battery indicator is still showing a full charge.
If I then turn off the camera and leave it a few weeks, the battery is totally flat.
I've bought a couple of replacement batteries in case I was just unlucky, but the same thing happens.
Is this normal, or could the the camera itself be faulty?
Hello andysputnik - Welcome to the Sony Forums
With modern batteries, they shouldn't completely drain when not in use - a little drainage will always happen but going completely flat doesn't sound right.
To see whether there may be an issue with the camera (this may be covered by the warranty if the camera is under a year old), I would suggest charging the battery up fully, taking a few shots as you have been doing and then removing the battery from the camera and keeping it in a cool, dry place. A few days later (maybe a week), put the battery back in the camera and see if you have the same problem. This will indicate if the camera is draining the battery unnecessarily.
If you need to contact Customer Services to find out if the camera is in need of a repair, the contact details are available in the following forum thread:

Thanks,

send it for repair, mine does not discharge when turned off for weeks, only the expected amount of 1-3% a week that falls under normal discharge.
