YouTube HDR
I've heard that the CPU in the spring 2016 series of TVs is from 2014 and therefore does not support the type of encryption that is needed for new HDR applications.
Is that true, and if so, is there any workaround? It is really bad if the TV is outdated after nine months on the market.

It is true and there is no workaround.
Sony admitted at CES that they used the BRAVIA 2015 platform on the spring 2016 models (XD85/XD93/XD94) and that it was not according to their plan. No reason was given though. Worst part is that Sony did not clarify it until some people found out on their own.
