I have just purchased a Sony Viera 43W805C TV, I have tried to watch a 3D film from Sky, and it does not work with passive glasses, do I need to use the active glasses?

yes, this model has an Active 3D, you have to use a pair of Active 3D Glasses not Passive...

Just to be specific, you will need the TDG-BT500A model glasses.
