Google Daydream

Can Sony please make the Xperia 1 compatible with the Daydream as I would love to watch movies in the big VR cinema.

The screen on this phone would be excellent for this.

Anybody else interested in this ?

Definitely!

Daydream has been crying out for a phone with a 4k screen and now we have one, it's not supported.

You can get daydream to work on unsupported phones, but that would require rooting, and that comes with many issues, like many (all?) banking apps not supporting rooted phones.

Also rooting is not possible until we get an unlocked boot loader, which we don't have at the moment.

So definitely Sony please support this.

Unfortunately Google don't seem in too much of a rush to add new devices to the daydream comparability list.

I spent some time emailing and asking for xz3 support with no reply.

Could Sony put pressure on Google to add it's devices ? Not sure ?

It would help re-invigorate the daydream market if they added more phones. Doesn't make sense not to. As it stands daydream is dying off.

Hello everyone and sorry for not replying earlier, I have been out of office due to vacation.

Currently, no Xperia devices are compatible with Google Daydream. We cannot comment on future product strategy, but continue to listen carefully to our customers and consider the possibilities and benefits of available technologies.

I understand that it would be really nice the Xperia 1 especially due to the awesome display and I will make sure to forward all the feedback from all of you internally.

I'm gonna be honest and let you guys know that I have no idea myself if this is something that Sony has to ask Google about, or if Google approves devices that they feel it would be a cool feature on, but I'll do my best to forward it and hopefully a guy knows a guy! Slightly_smiling_Face

Take care and thank you again for the feedback!

WOW Cheers Jonas and everyone for their feeback on this.

In my view, forget daydream and not to follow in a trend already started by someone else. Why not build your OWN VR helmet,-but unlike a certain phone company that starts with "SPAM" Face_with_stuck-out_Tongue make it compatible with other phones too.

I dont think a 6.5" screen could fit in a google daydream headset?

Whilst I cannot speak for anyone else, as a creative person-I prefer original ideas and those who dare to start their own trend-rather than follow the masses of 'The Herd'.

It is why I became a Sony fan, since the 1980'S!  As they DARE to think different from  the aforementioned HERD'

As an existentialist, sony even reflects to what Friedrich Nietzsche  Once said:

'The man who goes against the 5 commonly heldd opnions', then the WHOLE HERD' will set itself against him and slander his will to a higher power by labeling it as evil'

Geneaology of Morals

How does this apply to Sony phones? Consider that sony went AGAINST the commonly held opinions of a phone aspect ration and made THEIR OWN IDEA, now look upon how many review sites either found the phone aspect ratio unusual or hated it.

I have the Google headset V2 and it does fit.

The VR app runs up to the point it tells you not compatible.

We don't need more headsets we need a unified approach otherwise the content catalogue would be limited more so.

Google daydream is the best mobile phone headset out on the market. Gear VR has the most content.

So it fits in teh Daydream headset then?

I got one with an older phone, but never even took it out of the box, because it never worked with the phone it came with at the time(retailer offer), hah!

The list of phones it works with is pathetic, like the paltry effort from Samdung, and LG.

I do notice though that it works with the Mate 9 pro, but it doesn't work with the 10 pro or 20 pro.
It's like its been forgotten about.

Yes it does fit. Google needs to add more phones or it will just die off. Sort of happening now. I used S8+ which worked prior to upgrading to Sony X1.

@GilgameshUK, you're very welcome!

I haven't used VR myself so I'm not really sure what is the best brand/solution, but Daydream seems really big when it comes to smartphones at least. Not sure if Playstation is looking to create something that can be used with smartphones (Remote Play), but that could be cool (may be it's not even needed but I haven't used VR myself or really bother to read about it, since I don't plan on using it for now at least).

@Daveydguk, I totally agree with you. Creating more and more headsets will only end up in not every device supporting it, some stuff is exclusive to a specific brand and so on, which is not good for customers. Not really sure why more devices are not added since I bet most of the new flagships supports it by default, just that they are not approved at a more rapid speed.

@RottenFoxBreath, yeah that is really strange that it doesn't work with newer flagships from the same brand, doubt it has anything to do with the actual device and it probably just needs to be allowed or something. We are still waiting on Android Auto here in the Nordics and we received Google Pay pretty recently as well. Someone needs to feed the hamsters over at Google to speed things up, haha! Have a nice day everyone and thanks again for the feedback!
