Xperia XA battery drain fix maybe

After two and a half months of having my Xperia I MAY have worked out the issue, I tried everthing on the forums to no avail.  Just by chance I noticed in the rural/smaller towns the battery worked OK, sometimes up to 3 days, but everytime I came back to Canberra it died within a day. Five days ago I changed the network connection  to WCDMW Only and restared the phone, I beleive this the 3G network and the battery is lasting at least 3 days now. So is connecting the phone to the newer 4G towers effecting it I don't know! but I'm happy its working now....

I found connecting to 3G only my battery life is excellent, although you don’t have the speed of 4G I would prefer not to have to recharge every night, its in the settings/more/mobile networks/preferred network type an d select WCDMA only 🙂 I hope Sony see's this post and looks at the 4G connection and finds the issue.

It might not be the 4G itself, but the continuous switch between 4G and 3G that happens when 4G network strength falls low. I get heavier power consumption with my phone set to 3G only and the network strength is low.

That's interesting your phone can also be effected by network conection, but it does show that there may issues connecting to the towers, 3G or 4G. Maybe Sony should be looking at possible connection issues. I not ware of any other branded phones having battery issues due to connecting to towers... My wife and I have the same phone and I fixed her phone the same way.

Hello there. I bought my XA a couple of days ago. I'm wondering what is the best network to set my phone to. I see you preffered the 3G. But I get the best reception(full most of the time) with GSM only(2G). With WCDMA only the reception bar is moving and it is almost never full. What I have experienced is that "Cell standby" is taking allot of my battery. It is still not terrible, since I get about day and a half with medium use and overnight it drains about 5 %. But I am wondering if keeping it to GSM only(full reception) will be better for my battery life.

I agree, it is definitely mobile data related. When at home I get about two days of light use (only WiFi connectivity), however when commuting and being out (connected to mobile data/4G) I can only get about a day. I have only had the phone for just under two weeks so it is definitely not a battery fault. Hopefully they can fix this, among other issues, as well.

I am no expert that’s for sure, I have just been trying everything out as Sony has not been able to fix the 4G problem and have found a solution for my wife and I. I think it depends on your area and what towers you have available, I have 4G towers here but if I use them I have to recharge every night, I have mine set to 3G only and three/four days use, I have tried 2G but get really bad reception. I think it may be down to trial and error until you find what is best for your area....

Has been just over 3 weeks now, restarted the phone a few times and still getting 3 to 4 days life out of the battery. I find 3G is OK for me and will stick to that unless I hear on the forums that Sony has fixed the issue connecting to 4G.

BTW, I have my screen on full all my apps are working as they should, even leave WIFI and data on occasionally 🙂 Have not turned on WIFI scanning...

I'll give that a try, I only use mobile data when commuting and only stream webpages so 3G would probably better suit me.
