Newly Bought Xperia XA and I Am Experiencing an Heating Issue

I have a newly bought Xperia XA (Titanium Black - just what I call the color) and I am experiencing a heating issue as well when:

  • On Mobile Data
  • Using the camera (back panel)
  • Charging

Other than heating issue, I am also experiencing a battery issue (probably) because within an hour, even without using, the battery drops to 90%

Regarding the heating issue, this what happens.

  1. Got it out from the box
  2. Inserted my SIM
  3. Went to setup wizard and I connected initially to my WiFi router
  4. Setup is done, I switched to my Mobile Data (LTE)
  5. After several minutes, I can now feel the back panel is heating up
  6. I restared my phone, and even with a clear case (KRUSELL), I can now feel the back panel is hot! It is bearable but not normal since I got a couple of phone here which I use for software development and none of them have a heating issue when in Mobile Data. I have Nokia Lumia running Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, Oppo A35f on Android 5.1, and Samsung Galaxy S DUOS 2.
  7. Now everytime I switch to Mobile Data, I can feel my phone's back panel is hot. Just on top of the "N" logo
  8. Take note that I have not yet installed any applications on this even Facebook or Messenger I know these apps are massive resource monster.

The unit is bought here in the Philippines, I also updated my phone and is now on Build Number: 33.2.A.4.70

I saw there's a new update based from this link

/t5/Xperia-XA-XA-Ultra/xperia-XA-massive-battery-drain/td-p/1138332

How can I update mine? I don't see any notifications regarding the 33.2.A.3.81 update and I believe my phone needs this update as well Slightly_frowning_Face because the first time I saw this on store, I fell in love with it and want it to be my primary phone.

Kind Regards and more power to Xperia team

Your current build number is higher than the one you're asking about, and it's already the latest available at the moment.

It's normal to experience heat and battery drain during the first couple of days, system apps are optimizing and you also applied an update which will also consume some resources to optimize. Just observe it for one or two more days and things should settle down by then.

Also note that continuous usage of mobile data and camera would cause any mobile phone to heat up, but not to the extent of overheating and shutting down.

@Quester

Thanks for pointing out the build number. You are correct, I have the latest build.

I do not use the mobile data continously, only when traveling.

Can you suggest a good application that can manage application especially disabling/enabling Start Up Applications? Also an app that can optimize memory. I do not like those apps the automatically optimize the memory, I like to do it manually.

Honestly, I don't like memory optimizers and cleaner apps, they will cause harm more than benefit in most cases. If you go to Settings -> Memory & Storage -> there you can find a stock smart optimizer made newly by Sony that should take care of memory usage and free unnecessary occupied space.
