So a couple of nights ago a plastic cup that had some whiskey in it had a hairline crack and was next to my phone (Xperia XA). I stuck it in some rice after turning it off and wraping it in paper towel. It turns on and works now, but the touch imput is jittery, it can only handle 1 finger, and it has discolouration on over 85% of the screen. Is there a way to fix ths? I Tried to contact support but for some reason it won't let me send an email, I'm trying not to use the phone so I didn't call, Can I either 1 - I send the phone in for warantee repair, 2 - Send the phone in for paid repair, or 3 - Fix the problem myself, And how would I go about doing any of these things?
I don't think warranty will cover this, as it's water damaged and the water entered through the crack.
Okay, well I am willing to pay for repairs, I just need to know the process.
Welcome to the community.
Was the crack in the cup or in the phone?
Either way, the Xperia XA isn't IP rated, and it's unlikely liquid damage will be covered.
The best thing I can recommend is to let your local support team assess the device.
THe crack was in the cup, no body damage has been done to the phone, I only took off the screen plastic from when I got it after the accident, I've been testing the phone out, some of the damage seems to just be dissapearing, at this point the touch controls are working fine, the only problem is masive screen discolouration, I tried to go through the contact buttion but when I click the buttion to send an email nothing happens, the page doesn't try to load any script, I'm trying to minimise use of the phone so the battery doesn't explode but I guess I'll try calling support tomorro.
It could be due to the fact that it was wiskey. Strong alcohol can do that.
Are you in Canada? You can use this webform to email the support team there: http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/mail/?region=en_CA
Yeah I'm in canada, That's the email link I tried earlier, just tried again, I fill out all information, check the checkbox, but when I press the buttion labled send nothing happens, It stays on the same page with all the info in place, I had a similar problem when trying to get my PSN account back, I'm more than willing to pay, Is there a way to send in the phone for repairs? Also, forgot to mention in my origonal post, the phone was in a case when this happened, it seems like only a small amount of liquid got through the camera hole. as is the phone works fine, I just can't stand the way the screen looks anymore, I don't trust a third party repair service touching the phone so I'd lke to send it in, I'll probably call during busness hours tomorrow. Sorry if I was repetitive or ramble-ey it's 12:30 in the morning and I'm exhausted
Probably best to call them then. Here's the Canada support number just in case: 1 866 766 9374.
Good luck
