I’m p off at how Sony handles their software. Whether it’s a driver issue or something else, Sony is responsible for fixing it. This has been raised online for years, and it’s ridiculous that it has to be brought up again.
I’m using Sony XM4 with firmware 2.9.0 and a MacBook M2 Pro on macOS 15.7. Slack is installed.
I power on the headphones and they connect to the laptop; the menu bar shows them as the active output. When I join a Slack Huddle, there’s no sound. In the Huddle audio settings, both input and output default to the system device.
After turning on the headphones, they pair with the laptop and appear as the current output in the menu bar. When I enter a Slack Huddle, I get silence. The Huddle settings automatically select the system device for both input and output.
The headphones connect successfully and show as the output in the menu bar. As soon as I join a Slack Huddle, I can’t hear anything. The Huddle audio settings automatically and correctly point to the system device for input and output.
Headphones on, connected, and listed as the active output in the menu bar. Joining a Slack Huddle yields no audio, even though the Huddle settings have both input and output set to the System Device (Sony XM4).
I restart Slack - nothing.
I have to disconnect Bluetooth and reconnect it, and only then the headphones work perfectly.
Can someone explain why this bug has been wandering around for years without a proper fix? Why did my much cheaper headphones work for years with zero connection issues, while Sony ships fancy - and sometimes useless extras but can’t focus on basic features like connection stability?
