Hey again, yep back for more. Im now having a problem with the automatic update that tell you to restart your computer to configure changes and all that.
I have never had problems before with the automatic update thing before the 26/11/2009 according to the update history.
When I turned on my Sony Vaio VGN-NS30E again after the updates were ready to be installed, it went to the blue screen with the words Stage 2 of 3 there already and went to 100%,so far so good. But then the computer restarted again and then the blue screen came up again with the words Stage 3 of 3 and that went to 100% and i thought that was grand.
But then it changed to the words "Updates were not configured correctly. reverting changes. do not turn off your computer". Never having seen this before i just let it go and see what would happen, so it took like 5 minutes with those words and the spinning blue circle going round and round...
So then it restarted and it went through the whole damn thing again with the Stage 3 of 3 going to 100% and it restarted yet again and the "Updats were not configured..." message came again but this time after 5 minutes of this it went to the login screen grand and that was grand.
Now thankfully this hell doenst happen to me every time I turn on the laptop, maybe only 1 in 4 times but is still pretty damn annoying.
Now I did google it and saw a good few people had this problem all had different solutions so I thought I'd come to ye before I did anything drastic.
The updates that failed according to update history on the 26/11/1009 were:
Update for Windows Vista (KB955430)
Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 Help (KB963665)
Update for Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 Help (KB963669)
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86
They all showed the same error:
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 80244019
There are other updates that failed since those first 4 updates on the 26th and the only difference was the Error Code, as shown below:
Installation status: Failed
Error details: Code 8004100A
Sorry for this load but ye seem to be the fellas with the answers.
Is there any hope of anyone helping me with this?
After take a look in several forums and perform a good research at Google, several users solved this specific issue. The 80244019 is caused by a Trojan.
The winner answer from a Microsoft forum was :
I would check to see if you have a Trojan or virus on your system.
There have seen several cases with that error and it was resolved by removing the Trojan and rebooting your system. Once the Trojan was removed, they were able to install from Windows Update again. It seems possible that your Windows installation has been deliberately damaged by a Trojan so as to prevent you updating your system or removing the Trojan. Your first priority must be to cleanse your PC of all Malware.
1) Make sure the definitions for Windows Defender is up to date.
Windows Defender is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software.
You can download Defender from the following web site.

2) You can scan your computer now online and clean it for free with Live OneCare with the safety scanner that is available at the following web site. Windows Live OneCare safety scanner is a free service designed to help ensure the health of your PC. It will check for and remove viruses and get rid of unwanted junk on your hard disk.

3) Use the Malware Removal Tool to check for Malware. This tool checks your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps to remove the infection if it is found. Microsoft will release an updated version of this tool on the second Tuesday of each month. You can download the Malware Removal tool from the following web site.

I hope that this answer fix your issue.
Please, let us know about any further question.

Thanks for the response, I did all you said to do but no Trojan virus or anything else found. Windows Defender was turned off for some reason on my laptop and also the firewall on the network router so that could be how some virus could get in, but I ran scans from I think 4 different programs like that Onecare scanner, the Windows Defender, McAfee and maybe something else. The definitions were up to date on the Defender, im gonna try a system restore to some time before the 26/11/2009 and ill let you know how it goes, thn
