All,
I have searched high an low to find a solution to this problem. Essentially for those who dont know, its when the picture on your screen either doesn't fill the screen leaving a black bar around the outside, or when you select a higher resolution which your monitor / LCD TV in my case should be able to support however its stretches past the outside of t he screen.
I added this post as it seems theres an incredible amount of users who have this issue however it doesn't seem to be posted under this topic. I have read the majority of all the other topics however they seem to trundle off to something else and never actually address this problem.
My experiences so far have been,
First time I switch on my XL 302 I went to the vaio link websire and updated all the drivers. I noticed the problem with the overscan then however thought I'd try updates to resolve the issue. Tried to auto update via the vaio website and ended up having to install the 7600 GTL drivers manually for the update. following this I rebooted the PC and the screen didn't come back, I powered off and on a number of times to no avail. Then I restore the all drivers with the vista recovery. Shortly after I set off a windows update and low and behold it resolved my problem. This was only a couple of hours in.
Now I needed to factory reset the unit due to some other problems with WIN DVD and the issue is back again. i followed the same process however the issue is not resolved and I must have spent over 40 hrs trawling forums and drivers tying to identfy what this issue what actually called i.e. Overscanning, and identify a fix.
Any help anyone can provide would be most appreciated.
System setup
XL302
TV Sony KLD - 40W3000 which support native 1080p
have tried the latest Vaio link drivers from vaio link wensire adn Nvidia drivers from nvidia website, what are Version: 175.16 Release Date: 13.05.2008 these jsut make the picture flicker all the time so I reverted back to an older one
A few things to add, this worked perfectly fine before the restore i.e. 720p and 1080p resolutions. I dont want to go down the line of changing the pixels on the TV as in 1080 mode this only displays in 1080i and not 1080p. I have already tested this, i.e. full pixel and +1 , -1 and I cant get the full potential from the 1080p films / content.
Looking at the NVidia forums this issue seems to be completely down to the drivers, that said this is a sony system and sony should drive this issue with nvidia for a fix. I already called tech support and described this issue and they had no idea of what the problem was, clutching at straws to resolve the issue. Now I know what its called I spoke to them again and they have raised the issue with their belgium office however I'm sceptical they will come back with a solution.
I'm a great sony fan however this has left me disapointed, expecially since the price of the system and its not acually working properly. I hope they do read these forums and it would be nice to see an official response.
Many thanks for reading this thread and I hope you maybe able to help.
