disable google desktop

have read some time ago how to disable google desktop and use windows sidebar, but have forgotten.

could some kind soul give me instructions.

Have you uninstalled google desktop.?

If not use the following link for a guide: Uninstall Google Desktop

Once uninstalled if you have trouble launching the Vista sidebar and receive a message that says that 'Windows Sidebar is managed by your system administrator' then the fix below hopefully should help...

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly, these problems might require that you reinstall your operating system.
To back up your registry follow the guide on the web site using the following link: Vista: Backup or Restore the Registry


Press the windows key+R to open the Run box then type Regedit.

Registry Editor starts.
In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,
Expand SOFTWARE, then expand Microsoft and then expand Windows
Expand CurrentVersion, and then expand Policies,
Finally expand Windows then click on Sidebar

Right-click on turnoffsidebar and change 1 to 0.
Exit Registry Editor
Restart your Vaio

Google Desktop:

If you're using Google Desktop version 5 or later, follow these steps to uninstall the product:

1. Click the Start menu button in your Windows taskbar.
2. Go to Programs > Google Desktop > Uninstall Google Desktop.
3. Select the 'Remove completely for all users' option.
4. Click the Yes button.
5. If you'd like to delete your personal search index as well, deselect the 'Keep index and gadgets' checkbox.
6. Click the Uninstall button to complete the process.

If you have an older version of Google Desktop, follow these instructions.

1. Click the Start menu button in your Windows taskbar.
2. Go to Programs > Google Desktop > Uninstall Google Desktop.
3. If you'd like to delete your personal search index as well, deselect the 'Keep my index' checkbox.
4. Click the OK button.

The process is quite simple:
Start > All Programs > Accessories > Sidebar
