Xperia X8 and 3G services

Before I buying this Xperia X8., I have asked many times whether this phone supports 3G or not., the shop owner showed me that a manual which shows that this Xperia X8 supports 3G. But in my network provider phone list., this Xperia X8 is not avilable  and they are telling that your phone have GSM/WCDMA., it will not support 3G.

I need a solution for this., without changing the handset is there anyway to convert my phone from WCDMA to HSPA? thru some softawre update?

It sounds like your network provider transmits 3G/HSPA at a frequency that your phone cannot receive. The X8 is 3G-enabled but whether it can receive it, is dependent on the network.Where did you buy the phone from and in which country/which network are you using?

Hi Christ, thanks for your reply,

I have bought this Xperia X8 in India, Hyderabad, Reliance Digitial Shop.

And my network provider is Vodofone.., even this model Xperia X8 is not listed  in the 3G supported phone list of Airtel Network provider.

Also in my phone, in the "Preferred network mode"., I can see the following things only

WCDMA only

GSM only

GSM/WCDMA Preferred

WCDMA is a 3G based protocol, so your phone does support 3G, so try selecting WCDMA only and see if your phone receives 3G on the Vodafone network--you should see a 3G or H icon at the top of your screen.

Hi.,

You are right., after selected "WCMDA" only.,  and I got the message "Selected Network Not Available"., but below the "Search networks "., I am able to see  providers who supports 3G only. If I try to register one., I got the message "Your sim doesnot allow this connection".

Looklike my phone supports 3G and I have to change my provider. Thanks Chris.

No worries.

This message may also mean that you have a 2G-only SIM card for this provider and you need to get a 3G SIM card.
