Xperia Arc Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot Problems

Does anyone have problems getting the portable Wi-Fi Hot Spot to work?

I have just updated my phone to v2.3.3 firmware and still not working.

Build number : 3.0.1.A.0.145

Model : LT15a

I created the Wi-Fi hotspot and successfully connected my notebook to the hot spot but not able to access the internet from the notebook browser.

Checked all the browsers settings, eg. proxy settings to no proxy, firewall settings on my notebook, etc, etc

Just called the Sony Ericsson support number and the support person on the phone.

He informed me that he has tested the portable Wi-Fi hot spot for the Xperia PLAY but not yet for the Xperia Arc

He will do a test on his side and give me a call back.

.

Not sure when though. If he does call back, I will provide an update about this.

Thank you

just go to

settings -> sony ericsson -> connectivity -> tethering & portable hotspot -> port. wi-fi hostpot settings -> configure wi-fi hotspot -> security leave it open -> save

Thank you for the suggestion.

I have tried that and still does not work. I have tried all possible permutations of security setiings, checked all settings on my notebook PC, tried with different notebooks but to no avail.

What I notice is that once I enable the portable wi-fi hotspot, the 3G/HSDPA symbol next to the signal strength bars dissapears. ie It appears my connection to the 3G/HSDPA network is lost.

Hence there is no link to the internet via the 3G/HSDPA network anymore. Therefore no internet access.

As soon as I disable the portable wi-fi hotspot the 3G/HSDPA network symbol comes back and I am again connected to the 3G/HSDPA network.

My hunch is that there could be a bug of some sort that disables the mobile wireless network access as soon as the portable wi-fi hot spot is enabled.

The Sony Ericsson technical support person I spoke to still has not rung back. May be he is also having problems getting it to work.

I used to have the same problem but I figured it out, I was missing some data in my APN settings

What APN data were you missing?

I initially configured the APN settings manually.

Just to be sure I requested an over the air configuration from the mobile network operator's web site which sent me a message to set up the APN settings automatically.

There was no difference in the settings between the APNs I manually configured and the ones sent by the mobile network operator. Hence deleted the set of duplicated APNs.

By the way, I can't get the default USB tethering to work either, but it does not matter as I have a work around by using a tethering app.

Thank you.

In my situation, all the APNs are present together with the MNC, MCC, MMSC server addresses and their ports, authentication settings, etc, etc.

I have APNs for internet, MMS and WAP

You can wait for 3.0.1.A.0.146 or 3.0.1.A.0.148.  People claimed they fix some wifi problem.

Will find out if that fixes the portable wi-fi hotspot issue when my phone is on one of those builds.
