Xperia Arc bricked by OTA

Hello!

I just received an OTA to my O2.de Xperia arc. De download worked an update stared (it turned of my phone and I got the box with arrow and 4 dots). During the update my phone did automatically turn off (batteey wan't empty) and now it doesn't turn on anymore. What happened? Is there anything I can do? I tried removing battery, hoding the power button, connecting to PC companion but nothing works. Did the OTA brick my phoene? How can I restore it?

Cheers,

Juhani

Hi there,

If you have unlocked the bootloader you should have been aware that you cannot update the phone OTA as it will brick your phone. The information is stated on the page here http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/.

There are solutions at XDA Developers as the page also says.

So. Apparently OTAs mess up your phones if bootloaders are unlocked.... That is just stupid. I bought SE phone because I wanted to support their open approach to phones (ie. letting people to unlock boot loaders). I think it is all BS if the OTAs you push then brick phones that used the unlocking...

Well. If anyone else encounter the same stupid issues le the people at XDA sort you out at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126358

Note : If you have an unlocked bootloader you will not be able to perform the update just like this.  You will first need to relock your bootloader

Go to this link to download the relocking file

http://www.mediafire.com/?g1b5j712ajx4yjd or specifically http://download887.mediafire.com/phckkcdghtfg/g1b5j712ajx4yjd/Xperia_Relock_bootloader.ftf

File size : 98.8KB

You will also need a program to flash the phone with this relocking file.

Flash Tool v0.2.9.1 Beta

http://www.multiupload.com/7H4JT35B6G

File name : FlashTool_0.2.9.1.exe

File size : 59.7MB

After relocking your bootloader using flashtool, use SE Update Service to re-install the original software.

Also when it says that your phone has the most recent software. Just overwrite it.

SE Update Service

http://dl-www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1317636927/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.10.7.exe

Download, install and launch the update service on your PC. Follow the onscreen prompts.
