About a month ago I received an update notification and I pulled down the notification and it started to download the 2.3.3 update, awesome! So I let that go, and then about 15 minutes later I checked on it again and... nothing. Not downloading, no notification of completion, no update (still on 2.3.2)... NOTHING.
So, I wait about a week before I take it to the store, before then I manually checked for updates in which it would just freeze while it was checking and not return anything, no error, no nothing.
After taking it to the store, they verified that the update was available for my device, and confirmed that even the demo device in the Verizon store lobby had 2.3.3 and another Verizon associate also confirmed that he received the update and it was working fine.
They had a replacement phone sent to me, but even that replacement doesn't work. When I check for updates, it says no updates available. After 3 more weeks of taking it to the store and not getting the update, I called Verizon tech support.
They walked me through a variety of troubleshooting steps, and even double-confirmed that the update was available for my device. They even called a Sony Ericsson tech associate, but he kept telling me that no updates were available for my device. Even in the face of obvious proof that the update was available and installed on several devices in the freakin Verizon store he kept saying that no update was available for my device. Both me and the Verizon associate got pissed off at the Sony tech guy, but he was like a freakin robot.
BTW, I CANNOT use the Sony Ericsson update software because it wants to use an MTP media transfer mode which doesn't exist on Verizon PLAY devices.
I'm stuck, at my wits end, need help... I'll try anything!
Solved! Go to Solution.
Try seus again or wait a few weeks. The same thing happened to me.
you have to complain to Verizon, since they are holding back the updates
I have complained to Verizon on 4 separate occoasions and gone through both tiers of technical support, everyone says it's Sony Ericsson who's in control of the updates. The tech at SE did not deny this, but said that no updates are available for my device (which is either a bold-faced lie, or he is really not informed), so he refused to help me at all.
well think about it, the 2.3.4 update it's already out
the Play was released with 2.3.2 then there was a 2.3.3 update then a second 2.3.3 update and now the 2.3.4 update, guess who is lying?
Maybe in UK and elsewhere, but Verizon customers have only gotten the first 2.3.3 update.
Wow, unbelievable, checking it again worked, downloading update now... wth!
which android version and build number do you have?
Now it's 2.3.3, build 3.0.1.E.0.88.
you are 2 updates behind, there was another 2.3.3 update then the latest 2.3.4
