Not able to connect to Android Marketplace / Google account

I am not able to connect to Android Marketplace / Google account from my XPeria Arc. I know there is a seperate thread for this but the solution did not work for me. I tried both with Wi-Fi & data service but I couldn't connect to google account. I am of course able to connect through browser but not through any of the apps. Android version is 2.3.3 & Build is 3.0.1.A.0.145. Any help other than factory reset?

Go to settings > accounts and sync..

and see if background data has been checkeed..

Can you try this. Not sure if you have tried this already.

1. Create another gmail account.

2. From the master list of apps on the phone there is an app called Setup guide.

3. Use that to change the google account to the new one you created.

4. Try to access the Android market again.

Maybe my bad. I am new to Android. It works now. First I added my account in "Accounts & sync" & later was able to connect to all google apps. Thanks for your help though.

Also consider updating your phone to the latest update 4.0.A.2.368
